…except it has since been dubbed “the worst sex scene in K-Drama history.”
In the latest episode, leads Lee Min Ho and Gong Hyo Jin portrayed their characters as stranded at a space station, trying to stay alive in the freezing cold. In an attempt to share warmth, the two undress and cuddle, igniting feelings while at death’s door.
Then, to BTS Jin‘s voice singing the soundtrack “Close To You,” the two have space sex:

As soon as the episode ended with the scene, it earned some scathing reviews online.
- “What the hell is this? Did the production team spend all of ₩50.0 billion KRW (about $ 35.0 million USD) for casting?”
- “Who on earth approved the ₩50.0 billion KRW (about $ 35.0 million USD) budget for this?”
- “Like… who even wants to do it in space?”
- “It’s so bad… Visually and aurally, everything is just awful.”
- “Should have been the highlight of the episode… but I guess this is what happens when only the director is satisfied with the execution.”
- “This is exhausting.”
- “Kind of gross…”
- “What’s with the song, too?”
- “Finally got to do it in space, LMAO.”
- “Possibly the worst Korean drama in history.”
- “Everything about this is horrible. Even the soundtrack is subpar.”
Viewers did not hold back slamming the scriptwriter, director, and the cast of When The Stars Gossip for creating what one dubbed “third-rate.”
- “Why, Gong Hyo Jin? Why?”
- “In addition to the scriptwriter and director having no idea what they’re doing, I think people hate the scene so much because of how little chemistry the two actors have.”
- “The worst…”
- “WTF, man? This totally threw me off. Like, what even is this?”
- “This show keeps outdoing itself each episode.”
- “What the f*ck is this…?”
- “I’d hate myself for having chosen to take part in this show… For f*ck’s sake, the directing reminds me of cheap B movies.”
- “Such a third-rate C-Drama-esque directing.”
- “What even is this?”
- “LMAO. How did the cast even take on this scene? How did the director?! What was the scriptwriter thinking? Seriously the worst.”
Failing to convince the viewers with each episode, When The Stars Gossip is seeing its viewership rating plummet week after week. Given the reactions to the sex scene (which usually boosts viewership rating), it seems all is lost—including the ₩50.0 billion KRW (about $ 35.0 million USD) production costs—with this K-Drama.
