The Cowboys have finished 12-5 in each of the past three NFL seasons under coach Mike McCarthy. Dallas is one of the league’s best regular-season teams, but it has failed to get past the divisional round in those appearances. The Cowboys are still looking to advance to the NFC championship for the first time since 1995.
As that Super Bowl drought continues, however, the Cowboys once again are positioned to either win the NFC East again for the third time in four seasons or qualify as a top wild card.
Here’s how Dallas’ schedule shapes up for the 2024 NFL season:

Cowboys strength of schedule
The combined 2023 winning percentage of the Cowboys’ 2024 opponents is .505 (146-143), which ties them for 12th-most difficult in the league. That difficulty is based on playing the entire NFC South and AFC North outside of NFC East play this season.
Cowboys prediction 2024
Toughest tests: The trip to Philadelphia in the two-game series with the Eagles always is circled first given it will once again be key to who wins the NFC East. The Cowboys also need to go to Pittsburgh, Cleveland, and San Francisco. But they also get the Ravens, Bengals, Lions, Buccaneers, and Texans at home. That group equals a total of nine playoff teams from last season, including five fellow division winners. They’re missing only the Bills and Chiefs, so there’s not much breathing room in those games.
Biggest breaks: The Cowboys need to then take advantage of playing the Giants and Commanders twice each, although both teams should be much improved. They also need to prey on the NFC South, where the Falcons displace the Bucs as the favorites, and the Saints and Panthers provide should-win affairs.
Bottom line: There’s no hiding the fact the Cowboys are facing a gauntlet worthy of their first-place “America’s Team” status. They are facing an uphill battle to tally another dozen wins, and even getting to double-digits will be challenging. The Cowboys should feel good about going at least 4-2 in the division, but going significantly better than .500 otherwise doesn’t seem likely.
