After defeating the San Francisco Giants 6-2 on Wednesday, the Boston Red Sox reportedly sent one of their players down to Triple-A.
According to the Boston Globe’s Julian McWilliams, Boston optioned infielder Enmanuel Valdez to Worcester to make room for Zack Short, whom the team acquired in a trade with the New York Mets.
Valdez, 25, was originally acquired by Boston alongside Wilyer Abreu in the Christian Vazquez trade in 2022. He made his debut with the Red Sox in 2023 and spent the season going back and forth between the majors and minors.
In 28 games this season, Valdez logged 90 at-bats and hit just .156 with two home runs and a .452 OPS.
Short offers the team more versatility, as he can play shortstop, second base and third base, while Valdez has really only played second.
