Joey Chestnut is a Hall of Fame eater.
Nicknamed “Jaws”, the California native is a 16-time champion of the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest and holds the world record for most hot dogs eaten, consuming 76 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes. His reign over the hot dog eating world has been stellar.
Beating Chestnut in an eating contest seems like a monumental task. However, history dictates that while improbable, it’s not impossible.
There is one eater who can say they have defeated Chestnut on Coney Island — Matt Stonie. The 32-year-old native comes from the Bay Area, the same region that produced Chestnut. He may be most known for his YouTube channel, which has millions of followers, but his most incredible accomplishment came back in 2015.
Here is more to know about Stonie and the last time Chestnut lost at the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Content.

Last time Joey Chestnut lost Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest
Stonie’s biggest claim to fame is taking down the biggest dog (pun intended) at the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest.
In 2015, Chestnut entered as the eight-time defending champion at the annual event. His first win in 2007 sparked a Hall of Fame run, and it did not appear as though anyone would be able to top Chestnut’s dominance — until Stonie.
The YouTuber put together one of his best competitive eating performances to date. Stonie managed to wolf down 62 hot dogs, narrowly beating Chestnut, who ate 60 weiners.
Chestnut reclaimed his title the next year, and won every single competition after that until now. Dating back to 2001, Stonie remains the only competitive eater to win the event not named Chestnut or Takeru Kobayashi.
