One thing that is known about G-Dragon, is that the idol often freely speaks his mind.
This includes in 2014 during his performance at the MAMA Awards, when G-Dragon did a rap dissing the show partially related to his previous year’s win. The idol was awarded “Best Dance Performance” for “Crooked,” despite the song not having dancing throughout its entirety.
The rap included a line that implied MAMA gave out awards without winners having necessarily earned them.
At the 2024 ceremony, G-Dragon performed both as an individual and with the other members of BIGBANG. Unexpectedly, the idol also was announced to have won the award for “Music Visionary of the Year.”
The idol’s speech gained attention after the show, once netizens realized some of the references he made.

It’s been a while, MAMA. You’re giving out big awards, you hand them out generously so your children don’t fight.
So l ended up getting this meaningful award today, personally for me as well as for our group. We first performed MAMA back in 2007, and personally for me it’s also my come back on stage after 7 years.
It’s been 17 years, so on this meaningful day it shall become a good memory to me, thanks to Mnet who gave me this award. There’s too many people that I have to thank but l’ll make it short. First of all, Yang Hyun Suk and YG family, and my new family, Galaxy Cooperation, and to all the people that helped me, the members whom I loved, though you can’t see them now. The first part of his speech is the exact line he used all those years ago, seemingly mocking the awards show for still handing out awards freely. The line “I’ll try not to miss it next year” is also bit of a meme/trolling moment, as he copied the delivery of actress Kim Hee Ae in her ad for SK-II
After the show, G-Dragon seemingly even agreed with a post calling his award “made-up,” liking it on Instagram.

Even if G-Dragon might not necessarily agree with the show, the award given is absolutely true as he is a living legend!
