Yoshinobu Yamamoto on Sunday didn’t have his best stuff against the Reds. Prior to a rain delay at the end of the fifth inning, Yamamoto allowed four runs on six hits with two walks and eight strikeouts in his five innings of work.
All four runs came on a pair of hits in the third inning, neither of which were crushed. Jonathan India’s ground ball single that found a hole on the right side was hit 104.3 MPH according to MLB’s tracking data. Nick Martini followed that up with a lazy pop up that fell into no-man’s land in shallow left-center field to score two more after India stole second.
It wasn’t the best outing for the rookie from Japan, but his strikeouts showed how dominant he’s capable of being. Here are a few of them from Sunday morning, courtesy of Rob Friedman on Twitter:

It was an overall fine display from Yamamoto where he leaned heavily on his splitter and curveball to notch his Ks. Given the rain delay and his 100-pitch pitch count, his day will likely be done after five innings and eight strikeouts.
