Muth, the favorite to win this year’s Preakness Stakes, has been scratched because of a fever, opening the door for Mystik Dan to potentially win the first two legs of the Triple Crown.
The path to victory will be filled with other challengers, though, and Mystik Dan doesn’t have much experience with a two-week turnaround. The thoroughbred managed to hang on at the end of the Kentucky Derby, but he was clearly slowing down as he trotted toward the finish line.
The big question is whether Mystik Dan will have enough energy to keep his Triple Crown dreams alive against a fresh contender like Imagination. Horse racing fans will get the answer to that question on Saturday night.
