All those losses during the regular season may finally pay off for some NBA franchises.
Teams who missed the playoffs await the 2024 NBA Draft lottery to determine whether the odds line up in their favor. A No. 1 pick can often shift a franchise’s outlook for years, even decades, if done correctly.
That being said, it’s not that easy, especially when there isn’t a consensus No. 1 overall prospect such as Victor Wembanyama in 2023 . Teams won’t have the luxury of a stacked draft in 2024, so it’s not clear who the lottery winner will select in June.
Alex Sarr (Australia), Zaccharie Risacher (France) and Nikola Topic (Serbia) are all No. 1 pick candidates, each from outside the United States. Reed Sheppard (Kentucky) and Donovan Clingan (UConn) are a couple domestic players that could land No. 1.
