The New York Giants claimed quarterback Nathan Rourke off waivers from the New England Patriots late Tuesday night, adding another body to the quarterback room.
While it’s unclear what the plans are for Rourke as the offseason workouts get underway, there will be a bit more competition in the quarterback room behind expected starter Daniel Jones.
With Rourke being added to the room, here are three things to know about the Giants new quarterback:
Giants claim QB Nathan Rourke: 3 things to know
1. Yet to see an NFL snap
Rourke entered the NFL in 2023 after working out for several teams during the offseason following the CFL season. He signed on with the Jacksonville Jaguars, spending time on both the active roster and practice squad. He also spent some time with the New England Patriots before being waived on Monday. He has yet to see a snap in an NFL game.
2. Canadian Football Career
After his collegiate career at Ohio ended, Rourke was a second-round pick in the 2020 CFL draft. He spent two seasons with the BC Lions—the 2020 season was canceled. In 22 games (starts), Rourke completed 76% of his passes for 4,035 yards, 28 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. He added 57 rushes for 415 yards and 12 touchdowns.
3. Previous workout with Giants
Before he signed with the Jaguars during the 2023 offseason, Rourke held workouts for several teams across the NFL. But before even that, the Giants invited Rourke to their rookie minicamp during the 2021 offseason and worked him out exclusively at wide receiver.
