Bayern Munich welcome Real Madrid for a familiar blockbuster UEFA Champions League showdown in this season’s semifinals.
No two teams have played each other as frequently as these two in Europe’s top competition, with Madrid boasting a competition record 14 titles to Bayern’s six.
Each overcame Premier League opposition in the quarterfinals, with Joshua Kimmich scoring decisively for Bayern to sink Arsenal, while Madrid battled to a penalty-shootout triumph to get rid of holders Manchester City.
And two Englishmen will take centre stage tonight, with Harry Kane expected to lead the Bayern attack and Jude Bellingham looking to continue his own phenomenal debut season at Real Madrid.

Halftime
Kane heads clear at the near post and that’s a warp on the first half. Madrid had to ride out a bit of an early storm but then Vinicius Jr. gave them the lead and it’s been relatively plain sailing from that point.
45th minute: Only a three-man wall, which makes Rodrygo’s eyes light up. Nevertheless, he clatters his shot into Kane on the edge of said wall. Corner, Bayern see it out but Laimer concedes another.
43rd minute: Flick on from Valverde, Bellingham is goal side of Mazraoui who scythes him down on the edge of the box.
42nd minute: Kane whips one across the wall, catches it nicely but it’s wide.
40th minute: Oh, well they have a chance now because Nacho has fouled Musiala right on the edge of the D.
39th minute: Muller pings a return pass into Sane’s feet in the Madrid box but he can’t get it under control. Bayern have created little of note since going behind.
35th minute: Neuer piles through a crowd of bodies to punch a Kroos set piece to safety.
33rd minute: Bayern haven’t really recovered their poise since going behind. The tempo has slowed and they look tentative. Thomas Tuchel is imploring his players to crank things up on the sidelines.
29th minute: Kim was partly culpable for the goal for stepping out. Vinicius tries to burn around the outside of him but the hulking Korean defender shuts the door.
24th minute: GOOOOOOOOAAAAAALLLLLLL!!!!! Vinicius Junior!!!
After all that time under pressure Madrid lead because it’s just what they do. Bayern inexplicably stand off Kroos and allow him to pick a typically gorgeous pass through to Vinicius, who slots his 20th goal of the season beyond Neuer.
21st minute: Lucas wins a corner for Madrid. Kroos works it short before slapping the ball miles off target.
17th minute: A poor Neuer clearance goes to Mendy and Madrid have their first significant spell of possession in the Bayern half. They don’t do a great deal with it.
12th minute: Muller scoots down the right channel and cuts back to Musiala, who has room to shoot just inside the Madrid box. It’s fairly harmlessly over, but Ancelotti’s men need to tighten up sharpish.
9th minute: Goretzka snaps into a tackle and Kane tries a shot from halfway…just over. Lunin was hoping and praying there.
7th minute: Madrid really haven’t got going here and they cough up the ball on halfway. Kane slides a pass through to Sane. The winger can’t really get it under his spell and blasts over.
6th minute: Kimmich hands it deep, it goes beyond Dier and bounces over Goretzka. Still, Bayern keeps the attack alive and Sane cleverly backheels to Kane, who shoots at Lunin left footed.
5th minute: Musiala scampering into the Madrid box and Nacho clears behind for a corner. They work it short and Valverde makes the challenge on Kimmich. Another Bayern corner.
1st minute: Chance inside the first minute for Sane! A deft touch from Kane puts his teammate in. The angle was against Sane, his finish lacked conviction and Lunin makes the save.

5 mins before kickoff: Here come the teams out to a sea of red at the Allianz Arena. There’s a stunning tifo playing tribute to the late, great Franz Beckenbauer.
35 mins before kickoff: There’s plenty of pre-match focus on England duo Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham before this one. Each man has enjoyed spectacular debut seasons with their clubs. Despite Bayern ceding the Bundesliga to Bayer Leverkusen, Kane has scored 42 goals in as many matches across all competitions. Bellingham’s Clasico-winning goal to virtually seal LaLiga glory for Madrid was his 21st to sit alongside 10 assists in 35 matches.
1 hour before kickoff: And here’s how the hosts line up. Thomas Muller, who knows these occasions like the back of his hand, is into the starting XI as Raphael Guerreiro drops to the bench.

1 hr 20 mins before kickoff: Ancelotti is gunning for European title number five, having triumphed in 2002/03 and 2006/07 with AC Milan before masterminding Madrid’s runs to glory in 2013/14 and 2021/22. In between those latter successes, he had a spell in charge of Bayern. That yielded the Bundesliga title in 2016/17 but he exited the Champions League against Madrid in the quarterfinals and a 3-0 group-stage defeat to another former club, Paris Saint-Germain, led to his dismissal.
1 hr 40 mins before kickoff: As is his wont on these occasions, Carlo Ancelotti has named his starting XI nice and early. Club captain Nacho partners Antonio Rudiger at centre-back as he did in the quarterfinal second leg against Manchester City. That frees up Aurelien Tchouameni to start in midfield. Lucas Vazquez replaces the suspended Dani Carvajal at right-back as expected.

Thomas Tuchel was battling against a significant injury list as he prepared for the biggest game of his season so far. Matthijs de Ligt missed out but Konrad Laimer recovered to start following their respective setbacks during the weekend win over Eintracht Frankfurt.
Jamal Musiala also overcame fitness doubts to join Leroy Sane and the recalled Thomas Muller in support of Harry Kane in attack.
