Arsenal make the short trip to face rivals Tottenham in a high-stakes North London derby on Sunday.
Mikel Arteta’s side have their noses in front in a three-horse Premier League title race after hammering Chelsea 5-0 in midweek, although champions Manchester City still have a game in hand.
City face Nottingham Forest in Sunday’s later kickoff, giving the Gunners an opportunity to apply some pressure in a fixture they won 2-0 last season.
Since then, Ange Postecoglou has replaced Antonio Conte in the Spurs hot-seat and has his team playing a swashbuckling style of football — one that was in evidence when the teams played out a 2-2 draw at Emirates Stadium last September.
Tottenham have designs on securing UEFA Champions League qualification but must bounce back from a 4-0 defeat at Newcastle last time out.

Tottenham vs Arsenal live updates, highlights and commentary
27th minute: GOOOOOAAAAALLLLL!!!!! Bukayo Saka!!!!
Arsenal have been close to shambolic since going ahead but they now lead 2-0! There are a couple of tumbles in the Gunners box and they come away with the ball. Saka finds Havertz, who launches an outrageous return pass. That has the England start through on goal and he slots past Vicario with aplomb.
25th minute: OFFSIDE, NO GOAL! Initial replays made Van der Ven look fairly clearly offside. However, Gabriel’s, ahem, posterior provided a point of contention. As it turned out, he wasn’t squatting quite enough to play the Dutchman onside. A whole new meaning to squeaky bum time.
22nd minute: Van der Ven has the ball in the net after Spurs keep the attack alive!!! However it looks like it might be offside. VAR checking…
22nd minute: Kulusevski barrels his way infield. His shot is deflected behind. Another chance for Spurs to test Arsenal aerially. Partey heads clear but….
21st minute: Romero hits the post! Another set piece and more problems for Arsenal. Werner dinks the free-kick in from the left and the Argentina international rises at the back post to thud a header against the outside of the upright.
19th minute: Back come Spurs and White tidies up by heading behind. Oh and it’s a great chance to equalise! Romero is left unmarked and glances wide.
15th minute: GOOOOOAAAAAALLLLLL!!!! Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (OWN GOAL)
Spurs don’t make the most of that let-off. Saka whips in a devilish corner from the right and Hojbjerg throws himself at it to get to the ball ahead of Tomiyasu. He manages that but promptly buries it past Vicario.
13th minute: Into the net for Arsenal but the offside flag is up! Partey flights a lovely ball over the top to Odegaard but the Gunners’ skipper has gone a fraction too soon. He finds Havertz, who drills through Vicario’s efforts at the near post. It’s certainly a flag to spare the Spurs goalkeeper.
12th minute: Trossard dribbles back into his own box, causing some caper. The Arsenal defence must be delighted. The attack ends with Maddison firing over from the outside the box.
11th minute: Arsebal free-kick, 25 yards from goal to the left. Odegaard likes the look of it… into the wall.
9th minute: Spurs have settled, enjoying some time in the Arsenal fact but their visitors are staying customarily compact. Partey providing a little more midfield balast alongside Rice today.
3rd minute: Odegaard raids into the left-hand side of the Spurs area but Romero is across to clear.
Kickoff: 1st Half
Here we go. Must win for Arsenal? Must not lose? Must throw the form book out of the window? Let’s find out!
5 mins before kickoff: Here come the teams. The atmosphere cranked up to fever pitch. Tottenham fans hate that phrase, I expect.
30 mins before kickoff: Martin Odegaard will lead Arsenal out on enemy territory, a responsibility the Norway playmaker clearly relishes. A few eyebrows were raised when Odegaard was appointed Arsenal captain by Arteta ahead of the 2022/23 season, but overall performances since and his own exemplary form have spoken volumes. Sure, you’ll find the usual tedious banter accounts pointing out how he has far fewer assists than Bruno Fernandes and Kevin De Bruyne (who doesn’t?), but the 25-year-old’s capacity to produce “heavy” performances when it matters most has been clear to see over recent weeks. Odegaard stepped up to dispatch the first penalty as Arsenal squeaked past Porto in the Champions League, while he sealed a gritty 2-0 win at Wolves last Friday and became the second player during Arteta’s reign to bring up 50 Premier League goal involvements (31 goals, 19 assists). The Gunners’ skipper followed this up with a little masterpiece against Chelsea, orchestrating their downfall with two assists and a performance akin to tying up his opponents in 1,000 silk threads.

58 mins before kickoff: Here’s how the hosts line up. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg comes in to beef up a midfield that was torn asunder at Newcastle a fortnight ago. That’s one of three changes made by Ange Postecoglou, with Dejan Kulusevski starting on the right-hand side of the attack and Ben Davies at left-back after the news Destiny Udogie’s thigh surgery will rule him out for the rest of the season.

1 hour before kickoff: The teams are in and Arsenal are unchanged, which is fair enough given how they played last time out.

1 hr 20 mins before kickoff: Spurs have more to play for than derailing their bitter rivals’ title ambitions, even if Everton did show on Wednesday night that this can be a rare delight. Ange Postecoglou’s men are in the hunt for a UEFA Champions League spot and enjoyed a favour from elsewhere on Saturday. Chelsea recovered from their Arsenal shellacking and a 2-0 deficit to grab a 2-2 draw at Aston Villa, the team currently occupying fourth place. Spurs are seven points shy of Unai Emery’s side but have played three fewer games. Again, to return to that heavily loaded phrase at this time of the season, it’s in their hands. However, one of those games in hand is today and another is in the final midweek of the season at home to Manchester City. How Spurs fare in their role as the Premier League’s kingmakers will go a long way to deciding their Champions League fate.

1 hr 40 mins before kickoff: For all the euphoria that followed Arsenal dismantling Chelsea 5-0 on Tuesday, only the most optimistic of Gunners would have predicted them remaining ahead of Liverpool this Sunday lunchtime in what was then a three-horse title race. Yet Jurgen Klopp’s men have played twice since and their weary efforts at Everton and West Ham yielded a solitary point. Barring anything absurd, this is now a fight to the finish between Arsenal and the formidable Manchester City team that broke their hearts last term. Mikel Arteta’s side have proven themselves to be built of sterner stuff this time around and can go four points clear of City with victory in the north London derby before Pep Guardiola’s side face Nottingham Forest in Sunday’s later kickoff. That will be the first of two City games in hand, however, and the title race remains in the champions’ hands. It’s up to Arsenal to do all they can to make those hands a little twitchy.
