The 2024 NFL draft is less than 12 hours away, and the New England Patriots are currently set to make their first pick at No. 3 overall.
If they stay there, their next pick isn’t scheduled until No. 34 on Day 2, but New England might not be interested in waiting that long to add more talent to their roster.
According to ESPN’s Mike Reiss, the Patriots have been exploring trades that could see them trade back into the back half of the first round.
New England could use as much talent as they can acquire, and with some of the draft’s top tackles and wide receivers (two positions that they have clear needs) expected to go in that range, a trade might be the only way they can acquire another impact player at either spot.
As long as the price isn’t exorbitant, de facto general manager Eliot Wolf should pull the trigger and try to add another first-rounder to give whoever is under center the best shot of succeeding in 2024 and beyond.
