New York Yankees relief pitcher Jonathan Loaisiga will miss the remainder of the 2024 MLB season due to a torn UCL that will require surgery.
Though the surgery is not Tommy John, Loaisiga is still expected to miss roughly 10-12 months following surgery on the injury that impacted his UCL and forearm. The exact details of the injury have yet to be released.
Jonathan Loáisiga says he needs surgery on his UCL and that he has a forearm strain. It’s not Tommy John, though there was some confusion via translation. His expected recovery is 10-12 months. Will get some clarity when Boone talks. #Yankees

Loaisiga was placed on the 60-day injured list Thursday with what was described as a right flexor strain. Right-handed pitcher Dennis Santana was selected to the active roster in his place. In 4.0 innings pitches this season, Loaisiga didn’t allow a run on seven hits and one walk while striking out three batters.
Despite his terrific numbers when healthy, Loaisiga has struggled to stay on the field. He appeared in just 17 games during the 2023 season due to bone spurs and inflammation in his elbow, spending two separate stints on the injured list.
The Yankees will continue to work around pitching injuries as reliever Tommy Kahnle is still working his way back from a shoulder injury. Meanwhile, ace Gerrit Cole is currently on the 60-day injured list due to elbow nerve inflammation.
Loaisiga will no longer be under team control after the 2024 season as he’ll be an unrestricted free agent in 2025 so there’s a chance he has thrown his last pitch for the Yankees.
