They say it’s dangerous to look ahead in boxing and Tim Tszyu can relate after losing his unbeaten record to Sebastian Fundora via 12-round split decision in Las Vegas on March 30.
Tszyu was originally set to face Keith Thurman, but Fundora stepped in at short notice when the former unified welterweight champ was injured in training. The 29-year-old Tszyu was strongly favored to prevail and move on to superfights against Terence Crawford and Errol Spence Jr.
However, following a bright start, the Australian suffered a horrendous cut just above his hairline in round two that badly hampered his performance. The 6-6 Fundora took advantage of his opponent’s plight and ultimately relieved Tszyu of his WBO title while also picking up the vacant WBC version.
On the same card, Serhii Bohachuk scored an impressive points win over former world title challenger Brian Mendoza.

Charlo has been inactive since a one-sided points loss to undisputed super middleweight champ Canelo Alvarez in September 2023.
