It’s been exactly 17 days since Duke and NC State last met at Capital One Arena in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals. The Blue Devils walked into the building as favorites, but the Wolfpack walked out as winners with their NCAA Tournament hopes still alive. Plenty can change in 17 days.
NC State simply hasn’t stopped winning since that night, managing two more ACC Tournament victories to secure and unlikely tournament bid and rattling off three more wins in the big dance to stunningly reach the Elite Eight. DJ Burns Jr. has captured America’s hearts, but it’s been a team effort for Kevin Keatts’ squad on both ends of the floor.
Despite NC State’s win streak, Duke will still enter Sunday as the favorite to advance to the Final Four. Jon Scheyer’s group has grown up during the NCAA Tournament, grinding out a defensive win over No. 1 Houston on Friday after the Cougars lost star Jamal Shead.

The Blue Devils can’t be pushed around on either end of the floor, but the same can be said about Burns and the unsinkable Wolfpack. Only one ACC team can earn a bid to the Final Four in Arizona, and the one that does will arrive with quite a chip on its shoulder after facing so much doubt late in the season.
While both teams have been doubted this season, NC State will still approach Sunday’s game as a David vs. Goliath matchup. Why not? The Wolfpack haven’t reached the Final Four in more than four decades, and that underdog mentality has served them well all month long. Do they have one more miracle up their sleeve?
