Pro days are the last chance for prospects to show off their skills to NFL scouts ahead of the NFL Draft. For Drake May, that opportunity comes Thursday.
The North Carolina quarterback is set to show off his arm and playmaking ability in Chapel Hill.
With the 2024 NFL Draft coming up in less than a month, NFL prospects are using their college’s pro days as the last chance to boost their draft stock. For Maye, it’s his chance to prove that he should be one of the first names taken off the draft board.
The 21-year-old Tar Heels QB started turning heads as an NFL prospect while he was a redshirt freshman in 2022, completing 66.2% of his passes for 4,321 yards with 38 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He also rushed 184 times for 698 yards with seven touchdowns.

His numbers dipped a bit last season, but he still finished with 3,608 yards passing and 33 total touchdowns. Maye’s name will be one of the first called on draft day, so it’s a matter of when, not if, the talented QB is taken off the board.
The Sporting News is tracking Maye’s performance at his pro day Thursday. Check out the highlights below.

3:54 p.m. — But not everything has been good for the eventual top five pick. He has been a little inconsistent at times and the speed of the workout might be resulting in some fatigue.

Will Drake Maye throw at the UNC pro day?
Maye is expected to throw at North Carolina’s pro day Thursday.
The Tar Heels QB decided not to participate at the NFL Combine, instead waiting for his team’s pro day to show off his arm in front of scouts.
“Quarterback Pro Days are real intense now,” Maye said to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. “You’ve got about 60-something throws, you’re in there about 45 minutes to an hour.”

Drake Maye NFL Draft projection
Maye is projected to be a potential top-three pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. The UNC QB is considered to be in the running to go second over all after Caleb Williams, putting him in the same group as Jayden Daniels and J.J. McCarthy.
The Sporting News’ Vinnie Iyer had Maye going No. 2 overall to the Commanders in his latest mock draft, and he has the Tar Heels quarterback ranked as the No. 3 prospect on his latest big board.
“Maye has a nice combination of accuracy and athleticism reminiscent of Commanders QB Sam Howell, another former Tar Heel,” Iyer wrote. “Maye is a much better passer with a more ideal frame to handle pressure at a higher level.”
