New York Yankees outfielder Alex Verdugo is no longer among the players traveling to Mexico for the two-game exhibition series against the Diablos Rojos.
Verdugo, one of the Yankees’ stars of Mexican descent, will not travel with the representative lineup due to family reasons. It isn’t clear what the situation appears to be, but it’s serious enough to keep him from traveling for the highly-anticipated series.

This is unfortunate considering how special of an opportunity this would have been for Verdugo to play in front of a crowd he shares a heritage with. Hopefully, everything turns out well for Verdugo and his family.
The 27-year-old left-handed outfielder was traded to the Yankees in a rare swap with the Boston Red Sox during the offseason.
He has been enjoying a strong showing in Spring Training during his short time with the Yankees. In 15 games and 35 at-bats, Verdugo is slashing .257/.357/.286 with one double and three RBI.
While Verdugo won’t make the trip, catcher Jose Trevino and left-handed pitcher Victor Gonzalez are fellow players with Mexican descent making the trip.
