Hard-hitting super middleweight contender Edgar Berlanga looks to prove himself worthy of a world title shot when he takes on the unbeaten Padraig McCrory at the Caribe Royale Orlando in Florida on Saturday. The 12-round bout, plus undercard action, will be broadcast on DAZN worldwide.
Berlanga (21-0, 16 KOs) is a New Yorker of Puerto Rican descent and earned the reputation of an authentic knockout artist by halting 16 consecutive opponents in round one. However, the 26-year-old former amateur standout has been taken the distance in his past five fights and will be determined to end this one inside schedule.
“We don’t overlook anyone. Padraig is a tough guy, he’s coming from Ireland, he’s undefeated, he’s coming from the bottom just like I am, and we’re ready,” said Berlanga at the final press conference.
“At this level, anything can happen, and we understand that. In the super middleweight division, you can have no power but when you put ten-ounce gloves on, anybody can punch. So, we’ve taken him very seriously and I’m happy that he took the fight.”

McCrory (18-0, 9 KOs) hails from Belfast, Northern Ireland, and is looking to spring the upset. The Irishman has done everything asked of him so far, but this is a big step up in class. If he can knock Berlanga off his perch, then he’s almost certain to secure a big-money fight next.
“He’s a very good fighter,” McCrory acknowledged. “He’s the main event, the star, it’s the Berlanga show and I’m just here to show up. I’m just a guy from West Belfast, no one expects anything from me.
“But I think I have what it takes to win this fight. We’ve trained hard and meticulously gone through tactics, so whether it’s Game A, B or C, we’re ready for what he brings. He fights the way he fights, so if I don’t put in place what we have planned, it’s a very tough fight. I’ve been screaming for this opportunity.”
