As one record chase ends, another begins for Caitlin Clark. The Iowa sensation broke the NCAA women’s scoring record a week ago, doing so early in a 49-point explosion against Michigan. Now, another number is in her sights: 3,667.
That’s the number of points Pete Maravich scored in his college career, and it still stands as the all-time NCAA scoring record between the men’s and women’s games — for now.
Clark enters Thursday night just 99 points away from Maravich’s scoring record, putting the phenom in position to easily surpass the mark down the stretch.
While breaking the record on Thursday against Indiana isn’t realistic — 99 points in 40 minutes might be asking a bit too much of Clark — Iowa has three more regular season games after the matchup in Bloomington. Knowing Clark will have at least two more games after the regular season and very likely more, Maravich’s record is destined to be broken.
