A former flyweight champion and a former contender look to return to their winning ways when Brandon Moreno faces Brandon Royval in a rematch at UFC Mexico City on February 24. It is the UFC’s first visit to Mexico City since 2019 and the card airs on ESPN+ in the U.S.
Moreno turned pro in 2011 and joined the UFC in 2016. After being cut by the promotion in 2018, he won the LFA flyweight title before returning to the UFC that year. In his latest run in the octagon, Moreno is 6-2-2. He completed a tetralogy with Deiveson Figueiredo that started in 2020. Moreno fought him to a draw for the UFC flyweight title, beat him for the belt, lost the belt against him, and beat him to reclaim the title in January 2023.
In his last fight in July, Moreno lost the flyweight title against Alexandre Pantoja via split decision.
Royval turned pro in 2012. A former LFA flyweight champion, Royval joined the UFC in 2020. “Raw Dawg” lost against Pantoja in 2021, went on a three-fight win streak, then lost to Pantoja in a rematch for gold in December.
