Liverpool continued their title charge at the top of the Premier League as they comfortably beat Chelsea 4-1 on a rather straightforward night at Anfield.
Jurgen Klopp’s departure from the club in the summer will come after he acknowledged the finite nature of his energy levels. As Liverpool prepare for a title showdown against the treble-winning Manchester City, Klopp’s remaining vigour will undoubtedly be required in navigating the challenges that lie ahead in the coming months.
Liverpool dismantled Chelsea with goals from Diogo Jota, Conor Bradley, Dominik Szoboszlai and Luis Diaz. Despite Mauricio Pochettino’s squad seemingly finding their stride in recent weeks, the Blues find themselves remaining in 10th place, illustrating the unpredictability of their season as they appear to be back at square one just when momentum seemed to be building.

As good as the Reds were, Chelsea were utterly dreadful and it often looked as though it were men against boys out on that pitch. Klopp’s side made them pay.
Darwin Nunez experienced what could be dubbed the epitome of a “Darwin Nunez” performance. Despite 11 attempts, one of which was from the penalty spot, and four strikes against the woodwork, he still failed to find the back of the net, adding a layer of frustration to an otherwise bright display.
4 – Darwin Núñez has now become the first player on record (since 2003-04) to hit the woodwork four times in a single Premier League match. Carpenter. #LIVCHE https://t.co/PGOjrQOUXh

If Chelsea are going to play to that level in the Carabao Cup final next month, they may as well save Liverpool the journey and post the trophy to Merseyside first class.
What will Jurgen Klopp do next?
As Klopp prepares to bid farewell at the season’s end, there has already been a wave of speculation across the global football community regarding the next manager of Liverpool Football Club. But what lies ahead for the admired German manager?
At just 56 years old, and with an opportunity to recharge his batteries, there is no denying that plenty of clubs throughout European football would eagerly embrace the prospect of having him at the helm.
Jürgen Klopp is the seventh different manager to win 200+ games in Premier League history:
◎ Sir Alex Ferguson
◎ Arsene Wenger
◎ Harry Redknapp
◎ Jose Mourinho
◎ David Moyes
◎ Pep Guardiola

Ever since Joachim Low’s disappointing World Cup exit in 2018, Klopp has been tipped to become the natural successor for the German national team. Klopp is insanely popular in his home nation and despite expressing interest in the Germany job in the past, he cited loyalty to Liverpool as a hindrance.
By announcing his decision to step down months in advance, Klopp ensures Liverpool will have time to find a successor but also puts his name in the hat for the national team job following Euro 2024.
While Klopp may not immediately seek a return to management, the Nations League kicks off in September, before a nine-month break in the international calendar until the World Cup 2026 qualifiers in March 2025. Could that period allow the German to feel rejuvenated ahead of a World Cup in the United States?

89th minute: Mac Allister is down injured and Liverpool have made all of their substitutions.
83rd minute: Liverpool want more here, they’re looking to add more salt to the wounds of Chelsea.
79th minute: GOAL! And that should be that. Diaz puts the game to bed with a tap-in at the far post. It’s a really well-worked move.
76th minute: Nunez has now hit the woodwork three times… it’s just not his night is it?!
71st minute: GOAL! Nkunku pulls one back for Chelsea with a fantastic finish. Game on?
65th minute: GOAL! Dominik Szoboszlai surely seals the three points for the hosts as Bradley picks him out in the middle and the Hungarian heads home.

60th minute: Nkunku is flagged offside after finding bags of space in behind. Another wasted chance for the away side.
50th minute: What a waste of money Mykhailo Mudryk is turning out to be. Gusto bursts down the right and picks him out beautifully at the far post. The $ 100 million signing skied his effort, despite being under no pressure.
46th minute: We’re back underway for the second half. Can Chelsea find a way back into this match?
HT: What a first half for Liverpool, that couldn’t have gone more to plan. Other than Nunez converting the penalty, of course.

47th minute: MISSED! It’s been a bright half from Nunez but that with leave him with a bad taste in the mouth going into the interval as he smashes the right post.
He won’t want to watch that back 😬

45th minute: PENALTY! Jota is brought down in the box and the referee immediately points to the spot.
44th minute: “ONE CONOR BRADLEY! THERE’S ONLY ONE CONOR BRADLEY” is the chant from the Kop. That’s got to feel special for the young right-back.
39th minute: GOAL! 2-0! Just as we were talking about his goal contributions, he finds himself on the scoresheet! Conor Bradley doubles Liverpool’s lead with a neat finish.

26th minute: Conor Bradley now has four assists in the last four games. He’s been sensational.
23rd minute: GOAL! 1-0 to Liverpool! Diogo Jota bundles his way through Chelsea’s defence before poking the ball into the back of the net. It’s a deserved lead for Klopp’s men.

18th minute: Surely he’s going to turn these chances into a goal at some point tonight? Nunez has his fifth effort on goal and forces Petrovic into a good save after peeling away from his defender once again.
14th minute: Nunez again finds himself in space and tries his luck but he drags the effort this time and it’s well wide of the goal. Chelsea are creating their own problems in these early stages.
9th minute: Nunez skims the bar! The Reds striker takes a touch and then lets rip from some way out and he briefly caught Petrovic off guard.
6th minute: An appeal for a penalty as Van Dijk brings down Gallagher in the box. There was a brief check by VAR but it’s complete and no penalty is the decision.
