The Chiefs will look to reach the Super Bowl once again when they travel to Baltimore to face the top-seeded Ravens in the AFC Championship Game on Sunday, Jan. 28.
Kansas City advanced to its sixth consecutive AFC title game with a 27-24 victory over Buffalo in the divisional round. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who was playing in his first true playoff road game, was 17 of 23 for 215 yards and threw two touchdown passes to tight end Travis Kelce, whose girlfriend and pop megastar Taylor Swift was in attendance.
Mahomes improved to 13-3 in the playoffs.
Kansas City scored on five of their first six possessions and did not trail after Isiah Pacheco’s 4-yard touchdown run 40 seconds into the fourth quarter.
Kansas City is 0-1 in the playoffs against the Ravens, losing 30-7 in the 2010 wild-card round. Baltimore defeated Kansas City 36-35 in their most recent regular-season matchup in Week 2 of the 2021 season.
However, Mahomes had won three previous games against Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, who is this season’s favorite for NFL MVP.
The Kansas City defense finished second in the league in yards (289.8) allowed per game and second in points (17.3).
The Ravens advanced to their first AFC Championship Game since the 2012-13 season with a 34-10 victory over the Texans. Jackson threw two touchdown passes and ran for two scores, and won for only the second time in five playoff games. Jackson ran for 100 yards on 11 carries and had 152 yards passing with no turnovers.
The Ravens defense kept Houston out of the end zone without forcing a turnover or getting a sack against quarterback C.J. Stroud. The Texans scored on a 67-yard punt return by Steven Sims in the second quarter. The Ravens outscored Houston 24-0 in the second half.
It’s the first AFC Championship Game played in Baltimore since January of 1971, when the Colts beat the Raiders.
