The Falcons continue their uphill climb for an improbable playoff berth when they visit the Panthers in Week 15.
Atlanta (6-7) is coming off a heartbreaking, 29-25 loss to the Buccaneers in which Tampa Bay tight end Cade Otton caught an 11-yard touchdown pass with 31 seconds remaining. The Falcons’ injury situation got worse in that game when tackle Jake Matthews suffered a knee injury in the first half. Matthews had made a franchise-record 156 consecutive starts.
Tight end Kyle Pitts managed a 36-yard touchdown reception, which was the longest of his career. Wide receiver Drake London totaled a career-high 172 receiving yards on a career-high 10 receptions, but it was not enough to beat Tampa Bay.
The Panthers (1-12) have dealt with turmoil for much of the season, and they were routed by the Saints, 28-6, in Week 14. One bright spot was defensive tackle Derrick Brown, who had 10 tackles (five solo), one interception, one pass defended and one quarterback hit.
Wideout Adam Thielen caught five passes for 74 receiving yards and is the fifth undrafted player in the common-draft era with at least 7,500 career receiving yards (7,509).
