The battle for flyweight supremacy has arrived as WBO champion Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez readies himself for a unification matchup against IBF counterpart and division No.1 Sunny Edwards at the Diamond Desert Arena in Glendale, Arizona.
Rodriguez (18-0, 11 KOs) is one of the finest young fighters in the world today. The Texas-born southpaw is just 23 years old and already a two-weight world champion.
In 2022, Bam won the WBC super flyweight crown by defeating former champion Carlos Cuadras and followed up with successful defences against Srisaket Sor Rungvisai and Israel Gonzalez. He returned to his natural division and outpointed Cristian Gonzalez for the title he now holds.

The 27-year-old Edwards is also unbeaten with a record of 20-0 (4 KOs). A cerebral switch-hitter, “Showtime” is widely regarded as one of the most elusive fighters in the world today.
While he’ll never be known as a power puncher, Edwards’ brand of foot speed, upper body movement, quick reflexes, and ring IQ were more than enough to dethrone long-reigning flyweight champ Moruti Mthalane and feared power-puncher Felix Alvarado. The amiable Englishman is coming off a decision triumph over Andres Campos.
“I don’t have to overthink it; I know the best of me is capable of beating anyone at this weight and the weights above,” said Edwards.
“After I beat Bam, I feel there’s a lot more still to come. That’s the first step, unified champion of the world, it sounds good. Bam has got quick hands, good feet, heavy hands as well. He’s a great fighter, but he’s not been in with me yet.”
The Sporting News will provide undercard results below and a full fight report on the main event.
