The life of a K-Pop idol isn’t easy and it has been shared by former stars that unless you hit big, it’s almost impossible to make a living in the industry, counting debts from training and costs of promoting.
There is a new music survival show called Undercover airing on ENA, and a familiar name shared the hardships after joining as a contestant.
On the latest episode, the teaser for one of the contestants showed a photo of two groups, one being the fourth-generation group Pink Fantasy. The caption read, “Two girl group debuts, ₩0 KRW in profit.” The contestants seemed intrigued by who it could be.
It was revealed to be Kim Yechan, who was a member of the acapella group Awe5omeBaby but more known for being the main vocalist in the K-Pop group PinkFantasy.
Considering the caption, one of the judges, soloist Eunbi, asked if it was difficult to live without income.
After admitting she had earned no money from her active days, Yechan revealed that she was on the older side of debuting but that it was hard to make money as an idol.
Yechan explained that she worked at a BBQ restaurant to help earn and that she had been doing part-time jobs, even when she was promoting as an idol. Yechan added that she continues to do the same to earn money.
