Two SEC programs look to turn their respective seasons around when Florida and Mississippi State meet Saturday afternoon.
The Gators (1-2) suffered their second lopsided defeat at home with a 33-20 loss to Texas A&M last week. Florida seems to be trending in the wrong direction under third-year head coach Billy Napier, having now lost seven consecutive games to Power Four opponents.
It remains to be seen which quarterback Napier will turn to in an attempt to right the ship Saturday. Freshman DJ Lagway relieved veteran Graham Mertz midway through the third quarter last weekend; both players struggled, combining for three interceptions.
Mississippi State (1-2) suffered a calamitous blowout loss to Toledo, falling 41-17 at home. The Rockets, out of the MAC, racked up 454 yards of total offense with apparent ease.
It’s an early nadir for first-year head coach Jeff Lebby, and an SEC gauntlet looms: Six ranked opponents are on the schedule, including a streak of three consecutive ranked matchups following the Florida game.
