Von Miller is expected to suit up Sunday when the Bills face the rival Chiefs. That he’ll be on the field in Kansas City was far from a given.
Miller is currently under police investigation following domestic violence allegations that came up during the Bills’ bye week. There has been no resolution to the police investigation ahead of of Sunday’s game.
The Bills’ 2022 offseason signee has been impactful since arriving in Buffalo, having notched eight sacks in 11 games in 2022 before he tore his ACL. He has not started a game yet in 2023 and has not tallied a sack or a tackle for loss in eight games. He has appeared in 29 percent of the team’s defensive snaps.
Why is Miller able to play Sunday? Here’s what you need to know.
Is Von Miller playing?
Miller is expected to play Sunday against the Chiefs.
It had been reported that the NFL won’t place Miller on administrative leave unless he faces formal criminal charges, according to CBS Sports.
Bills general manager Brandon Beane said the team would “follow the lead of the NFL” on a potential investigation, added that “we have to let the legal process play out” and called the alleged incident out of character for Miller.
Beane says “we have to let the legal process play out,” but says that this seems out of character for the guy that they’ve come to know over the last year and a half.

What did Von Miller do?
It was reported Nov. 29 that Dallas police were looking for Miller because of an allegation that he assaulted a pregnant person, a third-degree felony charge. Miller turned himself in to Dallas police, and he was booked at around 4 p.m. CT Thursday, Nov. 30, at the Glenn Heights Police Department in Glenn Heights, Texas, a suburb south of Dallas.
According to WFAA, Miller’s girlfriend accused him of assaulting her at their Dallas home the morning of Nov. 29. Miller reportedly left the scene before police arrived, and his girlfriend was treated for minor injuries.
WFAA reported an affidavit said the alleged victim went into the office of the house and slammed the door, and Miller became “visibly angry,” leading him to go into the office, yell at his girlfriend and tell her to leave. The affidavit claims his girlfriend “attempted to comply” but wanted to gather some items first, and as she did, Miller “began to shove and push her, all while telling her to leave from the unit.”
The affidavit claims Miller began to film his girlfriend as he continued to shove her out of the house, with his girlfriend telling him she was pregnant. He is then alleged to have applied pressure to her neck “for 3 to 5 seconds before letting go.” He then threw her laptop on the ground and stomped on it, and as she tried to pick it up, he “pulled her by her hair, ultimately pulling a chunk of hair out and causing her to fall to the ground,” according to the affidavit.
She got up and started to film him, leading him to grab her by the neck again, per the affidavit, and when she said she would call the police, Miller left the home.
When reached by WFAA, Miller’s girlfriend reportedly downplayed the incident, saying things were “blown way out of context” and said that “no one assaulted anyone.” She called it “insane. And sad.”
Miller had been investigated by police for domestic violence allegations from his ex-fiancee back in 2021, but he wound up not being charged by the Parker (Colorado) Police Department.
