The 2023 NCAA men’s soccer national championship will crown one team as this year’s title winner, the culmination of an entire season of hard work, effort, and adversity.
While respective conferences around the country have already crowned their regular season and tournament champions, the NCAA tournament will place one team up on a national pedestal as the best in the land.
The matchup is a mouth-watering rematch of their 3-2 thriller back in September early in ACC play this season. With the score even at 2-2 during the halftime break, Daniel Russo scored five minutes into the second half as Notre Dame rode the rest of the match to victory.
With the Fighting Irish falling short in the ACC tournament, which Clemson emerged victorious, this is their opportunity to atone for that misfire and secure the most coveted title in the land.
This year has proven the difficulty of reaching the College Cup, as the top three ranked teams in men’s soccer all failed to reach this stage, as did each of last year’s two finalists, including defending champions Syracuse. No. 1 ranked Marshall fell in the third round to Stanford, while 2nd-ranked SMU also came up short at the same stage, and No. 3 Georgetown was downed even earlier.
