The Red Sox and Rangers will each look to better their respective postseason odds when they begin a three-game series Monday evening.
This year hasn’t gone quite to plan for Texas, the reigning World Series champions. Despite a slew of injuries, the Rangers are still alive, within striking distance in the AL West.
Slowly, the cavalry is returning: Third baseman Josh Jung, an All-Star in 2023, was recently activated after missing almost four months with a right wrist fracture. Jung should provide protection for the likes of Corey Seager, who has hit his stride since the All-Star Break.
Boston remains one of baseball’s best surprise stories, having emerged as a formidable postseason contender despite entering the year with minimal expectations. And while the pitching staff propelled its first-half success, the offense has flipped the script post-All-Star Break.
Entering play on Friday, Boston is averaging 6.5 runs per game, the most in baseball. All-Star third baseman Rafael Devers has led the charge.
The two teams met at the beginning of August in Arlington, and the Red Sox took two out of three.
