Renowned sports analyst Colin Cowherd just picked the Washington Commanders as this year’s surprise team in the NFL. During an NFL segment of Cowherd’s show The Herd with Colin Cowherd, Cowherd was ranking the teams of each division for this upcoming season. In a shocking turn of events, Cowherd had the Commanders at second in the NFC East above the Dallas Cowboys, even though the Commanders were 4-13 last season.
Cowherd contributed this placement to the fact the Commanders just had a major turnaround in the last year. In the past year, the Commanders have gotten new owners, who want to win now. This led to the owners firing the head coach Ron Rivera, and the offensive and defensive coordinators, Eric Bieniemy and Jack Del Rio. The owners then hired Dan Quinn and Joe Whitt Jr from the Cowboys as the new HC and DC, and hired Kliff Kingsbury, the Arizona Cardinals former HC, as the new OC.
To top it all off, the Commanders just drafted their franchise QB in Jayden Daniels, who they hope will have a stellar rookie season. Cowherd believes this wave of new energy will carry the Commanders to new heights.
“I think they’re the surprise team in the NFL.”
