Coming off a 6-11 season, New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll is looking to right the ship.
Across the NFL and even in the Giants own organization, we’ve seen coaches get put on very short leashes after a losing season.
Even though Daboll and the Giants made the postseason during his first year as head coach in 2022, the disaster that was 2023 still lingers heavily over the organization.
That’s mostly why Vinnie Iyer of Sporting News ranked Daboll as having the fifth-hottest seat among NFL coaches.
“Another shaky sub-.500 season may not save Daboll, given predecessor Joe Judge wasn’t given long,” Iyer said of Daboll.
The Giants haven’t been shy about moving on from head coaches after only a few seasons. In fact, no Giants head coach has entered a third season since Tom Coughlin left in 2016.
Some of the issues have been out of Daboll’s control. The injuries the team has dealt with have been brutal, especially during the 2023 campaign. But there have been other questionable moves made by this regime as well.
A sub-.500 record could very well lead to Daboll’s departure at the end of 2024. He may also keep his job if the Giants prove to be more competitive.
Either way, Daboll’s seat could warm up very quickly if the Giants start out slowly in 2024.
