Korean netizens slammed ILLIT after alleging that the members themselves personally followed a NewJeans hate account.
Previously, it was reported that ILLIT had followed a NewJeans hate account on Twitter. Although ILLIT unfollowed the account soon after, the damage had already been done.
ILLIT Accidentally Follows A Fan Account Accusing NewJeans Of Plagiarism
On May 21, the controversy exploded after Sports Kyung Hyang reported that ILLIT members were known to directly use their official Twitter account. This seemingly suggests that it wasn’t ILLIT’s label but the members themselves who followed the account.
The report has since sparked outrage and backlash targeting ILLIT.
- “Is HYBE trying to make it seem like it was an employee who did it?”
- “If it was an employee, then it is shocking that HYBE is trying to bring hate to one of their own groups and warrants a deeper investigation. But this occurred at night, and seeing how the person followed a Japanese account and the hate account, I am 99.99% confident that it was a Japanese member who did it and not an employee.”
- “They are blatantly trying to bring hate, lol. HYBE is admitting that it tried to bring hate to one of their own groups.”
- “So why do they sue hate comments? Lol.”
- “How pathetic.”
- “I feel better now that I know that ILLIT members are the same as HYBE. I had trouble separating HYBE and ILLIT, but now I know that I don’t need to.”
- “They are so mean.”
- “ILLIT members are so amazing. Who would have known they’d personally try to bring hate to NewJeans?”
- “This is seriously too much… I really don’t want to see them anymore.”
