On May 19, the BBC World Service’s investigative team, BBC Eye, released a powerful new documentary titled Burning Sun, revealing how two female Korean journalists exposed sex scandals involving prominent K-Pop stars.
Many new case details have been revealed, including videos and messages between the K-Pop idols involved, including Seungri, Choi Jonghoon, and Jung Joonyoung.
“Burning Sun” Documentary Exposes How Jung Joon Young And KBS Lawyers Manipulated His “Molka” Scandal
However, some have found the documentary to be “suspiciously timed,” linking it to an ongoing legal case in K-Pop.
In April 2024, ADOR CEO Min Hee Jin was asked to step down, leading to an ongoing legal battle against HYBE that revealed shocking details of how NewJeans and other groups were allegedly formed and treated.
May 16 marked the first day in court for both sides, and many netizens have sided with ADOR in the legal battle.
Some of these netizens that are siding with ADOR have claimed that the release of the documentary was “paid” for by HYBE to act as a distraction from the case.
In the past, some have accused those in power of leaking news to distract the public, and with HYBE’s large influence on the industry, many have applied this same concept to them.
Lmao I just know this is HYBE trying to cover up their sh*t about the burning sun again. Don’t start. We all know. https://t.co/Mfj4TdpksV

this edited chat again? Isn’t it obvious that today’s controversy is being used again as a shield to cover up the ongoing issue with the hype? It’s frustrating to see how this distraction is being employed to divert attention from the real problems of corruption and manipulation. https://t.co/Jk0ATgfhKZ

Stop using Goo hara,
The world owes her freedom, respect and rest
We can all see what u all are trying to do…
Lets not use a case SOLVED to cover up cases of today.
Its about time to call out hybe
Hara , BIGBANG and other artist should not be used as scapegoats https://t.co/kzHkrHzwG8— original na sinabihan ng 3wells (@localcebuana) May 19, 2024
However, most have been disgusted by this allegation, saying that involving the two unrelated issues is insulting to the victims of the “Burning Sun” scandal as well as the idols involved in the current ADOR vs HYBE case.
We were right when we said y’all treat lesserafim, bts and illit worse than actual criminals. We’re talking of sex trafficking, rape and abuse here and you’re bringing up hybe? pic.twitter.com/YDIf0HoT7P

this just in: having a few voice cracks sometimes because you’re actually singing live is worse than abusing women.
and apparently everything HAS to be a conspiracy. OF COURSE hybe paid for this burning sun documentary as if it’s not a topic that’s been discussed for years. wow! https://t.co/RYtTK2grVH

It is worth noting this is not a new subject for BBC, as the media organization released an audio special in 2023 on Burning Sun.
