Colorado head football coach Deion Sanders leaving Boulder has been a narrative for almost as long as he’s been at CU.
John Middlekauff, host of the “3 and Out with John Middlekauff” podcast, believes was the latest to fan those flames – linking Coach Prime to Florida, FSU, and LSU in future seasons.
“He could get a job at Florida or Florida State or LSU… That pays him $ 14 million a year, and he can pay all of his buddies on his staff huge cash. I envision him as a college coach for a while,” Middlekauff said.
It’s not crazy to think Sanders will want to take his act to a bigger stage eventually. Money was supposedly an issue around the Alamo Bowl, outside of record insurance policies for Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter at least.
Sanders has repeatedly asked for more money this offseason, be it for his coaching staff or recruiting.
None of the aforementioned schools are hurting for money.
LSU has quickly raised money with Brian Kelly, who many see as a lame-duck coach this fall unless the Tigers can meaningfully improve toward CFP contention. Florida has become a powerhouse on the recruiting trail under Billy Napier after UF’s donors gave the 45-year-old a vote of confidence. Florida State bought recruits for Mike Norvell. His staff just didn’t take advantage of it.
Will Sanders be willing to give up his freedom and attend events with boosters and sponsors?
That’s where the idea of Sanders leaving Colorado for an SEC, Big Ten, or high-level ACC school falls flat.
