BYU has been one of the hotter teams in the country entering the NCAA Tournament.
The Cougars now attempt to translate that into a deep run through the bracket, which begins for them on Thursday afternoon in Denver. BYU, seeded No. 6 in the East Region, takes on No. 11 seed VCU.
BYU had won nine straight games, including wins against Kansas, Arizona and Iowa State, before losing to Houston in the Big 12 tournament semifinals.
VCU, meanwhile, comes in at 28-6 and won the Atlantic 10 tournament championship. Rams coach Ryan Odom, whose name is linked to the vacant Virginia and Villanova jobs, made a name for himself when he guided UMBC to a 2018 first-round win against Virginia, the first time a No. 16 seed defeated a No. 1 seed in the men’s NCAA Tournament.
