Actress Jang Shin Young is receiving criticism for seemingly “exploiting” her husband’s affair.
The actress was featured in a recently released preview of the upcoming episode of KBS2’s Star’s Top Recipe At Fun-Staurant. In the video, she appeared happy as she cooked with her second child in her arms, but in the end, she burst into tears as she prepared meals for her family. The preview has led viewers to believe that Jang would probably talk about her husband Kang Kyung Joon’s affair.
Jang Shin Young was raising her son alone after her divorce from her first husband, but in 2018, she remarried Kang Kyung Joon. The couple welcomed a second son in 2019. Their family life was much publicized through appearances on shows like The Return of Superman, and the couple garnered a significant fan following for their real-life chemistry.
But in December 2023, Kang was accused of having an extra-marital affair with another married woman. He was sued by “A,” the woman’s husband, who claimed that he knowingly engaged in an affair with his wife. The lawsuit demanded ₩50.0 million KRW (about $ 35,000 USD) in damages. Though Kang denied the affair, the lawsuit ended in a settlement where he accepted the defendant’s claim, effectively admitting to the affair.
The case invited much public scrutiny for Kang, but in August 2024, Jang revealed that her husband “repeatedly blamed himself and reflected on his actions,” adding that they had decided to live together again for their children. In October 2024, she mentioned her marriage again, stating she “didn’t want to end things in divorce” and that she intended to “minimize the hurt for [their] child.”
With this new preview, fans are concerned that Jang might once again expose her children to difficult circumstances, especially since her husband has become a national symbol of infidelity. Many netizens expressed resentment over Jang’s decision to expose her private life for public appeal. Some claimed she was someone who “profits from misery.”
