A rematch of the 2021 and 2023 SEC Championship games headlines week 5 of college football, with No. 4 Alabama and No. 2 Georgia set to clash in Tuscaloosa Saturday night.
The Bulldogs will enter Bryant-Denny Stadium hoping to extend their regular season win streak to 43 games, which would leave them two shy of the all-time record currently held by Oklahoma.
However, Georgia’s last trip to Tuscaloosa was a losing effort, a 41-24 defeat on Oct. 17, 2020. In fact, three of the Bulldogs’ last four games against the Crimson Tide have resulted in losses, the sole win being a 33-18 victory in the College Football Playoff National Championship game on Jan. 10, 2022.
Much has changed since the Crimson Tide last hosted the Bulldogs. Nick Saban is no longer at the helm and Georgia has two national championship titles, marking what many would call a shift in power at the top of the college football mountain.
Still, one must be able to beat the best in order to be the best, and Alabama is still the standard bearer even with new coach Kalen DeBoer. DeBoer’s squad — led by fourth-year quarterback Jalen Milroe — has marched through the first three games with relative ease.
The Bulldogs’ defense, however, is more than poised for the challenge of stopping Alabama’s explosive offensive attack. Georgia has yet to give up a touchdown and has only allowed six points per game through three games, the third-best mark in college football.
The stage is set for yet another exhilarating showdown between two college football powerhouses and The Sporting News has everything you need to know about Alabama vs. Georgia, including the start time for Saturday’s game.
