‘Thursday Night Football’ is in its third season on Amazon Prime Video, and like any relatively new TV venture, it’s still working out the kinks and trying new things with its broadcast. The streaming giant seems to have settled on a pre-game and post-game crew, though, with former NFL stars Tony Gonzalez, Andrew Whitworth, Ryan Fitzpatrick, and Richard Sherman providing analysis and veteran host Charissa Thompson overseeing the proceedings.
Before the post-game show wraps every Thursday, the TNF crew takes part in “The Night Cap.” This is usually one of the final segments and is typically more humorous while also humanizing the crew. In Week 2, for example, clips were shown of the group go-kart racing.
Week 3’s Night Cap following the Jets’ victory over the Patriots saw the crew welcome comedienne Nikki Glaser to the set, and a roast ensued. Viewer reactions were decidedly mixed after the roastmaster finished her non-traditional set.

Nikki Glaser roasts Amazon TNF Crew, more NFL figures
NFL fans might remember Glaser for her much talked-about appearance on Netflix’s Tom Brady roast. Her appearance after Thursday’s Jets-Patriots game didn’t go quite so well.
She started by talking about the Amazon crew’s appearances, first comparing herself to 49ers TE George Kittle before saying that Thompson looks like the “final boss of a country club” and that Sherman looks like if “Busta Rhymes took Ozempic.” Glaser also said Whitworth looked like “Men’s Warehouse Shrek” and referred to Fitzpatrick as “Sacks Galifinakis.” In true Glaser style, she added some NSFW-ish comments about Gonzalez being the object of older women’s desires.
Glaser then moved on to Aaron Rodgers, calling him “Throw Rogan.” She also said she was surprised he was so into silent retreats since he won’t ever shut up about them. Glaser then roasted both teams’ fans, ensuring the digs covered everyone, including Bill Belichick and his 24-year-old girlfriend.
Comedy is subjective, so, of course, not everyone loved or hated Glaser’s comedy stylings. However, judging solely by the X reaction, it seems the segment — which will recur four times throughout the season — was definitely not a smash hit.
Nikki Glaser TNF roast reactions
The Good
Glaser was challenged with an impossible task. She is a stand-up comic, and she wasn’t presented with any sort of real audience or laugh track. All Glaser got were some scattered laughs from Sherman as Jets fans yelled in the background. It wasn’t much to work with. Some on social media gave her the benefit of the doubt.
I thought it was amazing 🤩 Nuanced belittlement is my love language. “You look like a genie that you can only summon by rubbing the crotch of a sensible pants suit” “Sacked Galifinakis” “82k of New Jerseys singlest fathers” 🤣🤣😘 pic.twitter.com/XqSoLKDklz

What @NikkiGlaser just did is so damn hard. Telling jokes with no audience while Jets fans scream in the back ground and she still absolutely killed. That was hilarious.

Watched the entire Nikki Glaser Amazon set. The best joke imo was calling Ryan Fitzpatrick “Sack Galifianakis”

The Bad
Others — seemingly the majority — did not give her the benefit of the doubt. While the content behind some of her jokes was indeed funny, the mode in which they were given with the lack of audience didn’t help matters.
Yea that was the first time I’ve seen Nikki Glaser bomb, she is genuinely funny, but that’s not her forte. Speaking of Forte, I wonder what Matt’s up to these days.

Nikki Glaser without a live audience of people laughing is a brutal watch.

Somehow the Nikki Glaser postgame is even worse than the actual game

Cringe at best. Somewhat funny, but a comedian playing to a silent audience is no good

Ok, what was worse, the Jets/Patriots game or Nikki Glaser afterwards? I may have been the only one watching at that point. #NFL

Amazon may change its mind based on the overwhelmingly poor reaction, but for now, Glaser is expected to perform four more times during the TNF Night Cap this season.
