Arch Manning has made noise in the college football world not with his arm, but his feet.
Yes, his four touchdowns and 223 passing yards on 9/12 attempts against UTSA on September 14 were impressive.
But this might be cooler.
Manning zoomed down the field for a huge touchdown play — one that was good for 67 yards. His speed clocked out at 20.7 mph.
That’s the kind of fast NFL fans may have a hard time accepting.
“According to Reel Analytics and Next Gen Stats, that speed was faster than Tyreek Hill’s 20.3 mph when he scored an 80-yard touchdown in Week 1 for the Dolphins,” per New York Post’s Andrew Battifarano.
Manning has a faster time than Miami Dolphins wide receiver and Super Bowl champion. At 19 years old.
Steve Sarkisian impressed with Arch Manning
Texas’ Steve Sarkisian was impressed with his viral star’s performance as the emergency QB1.
“There were some learning curves in there, a couple things to learn from, but at the end of the day, I thought he played at a high level,” per TheAthletic’s Sam Khan Jr.
Quinn Ewers went down with an injury during the September 14 contest, leaving it up to the newcomer. Texas’s coaching staff will have to rely on the freshman’s arm and then some but it feels like he fits in just fine.
The Longhorns will host LA-Monroe on September 21 and Mississippi State during their next two games.
No. 16 will have a lot on his shoulders but with the guidance from both of his uncles, he should at least have perspective on how to handle the attention. And maybe a thing or two about being a great QB.
But of course, that’s easier said than done. We’ll leave it up to Manning’s performance on the field to know for sure.
