We’re past the halfway stage in the 2024 Formula One season, and as we move towards the home straight of this enthralling campaign, the Hungaroring will play host to the 40th Hungarian Grand Prix, two weeks after an historic race for the ages at Silverstone in the British edition.
Max Verstappen’s grip on a fourth consecutive World Drivers’ Championship title was strengthened as the season reached its 12th race of 24 this year, but he was pipped to the top of the podium by none other than Lewis Hamilton, who won his first race in 945 days and on his home track no less.
Hamilton’s victory by just 1.465 seconds over Verstappen was his ninth overall at the British Grand Prix, and Lando Norris finishing third meant there were two Brits on the winners’ podium. It could well have been a clean sweep, with George Russell leading the pack when a water leak in his Mercedes forced an early retirement in the 33rd lap.
Coming into this weekend’s meeting at the Hungaroring after a two-week break, Verstappen and Norris’ McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri will be looking to get back to the top of the order, while Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz also had races to forget. Verstappen won last year’s meeting at a canter, with his second-placed Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez a whopping 33.7 seconds behind!
This weekend’s race is the fourth of seven in a row to be held on European soil as we enter the second half of the 2024 F1 season, and following the three free practice sessions and qualifying across the two days prior, the race will begin at 3:00 p.m. local time (CEST) on Sunday, July 21 2024.
The 2024 Hungarian Grand Prix weekend is primed and ready to go with Friday’s first free practice session, and to keep up with all the action from Mogyorod, The Sporting News has all the scheduling, TV and streaming details you’ll need.
