Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal, two hard-hitting MMA fighters, go from the cage to the squared circle when they face off on Saturday, July 6, in a boxing fight. The clash in California airs on Fanmio PPV and UFC Fight Pass.
It is the second time the two will face off. Masvidal (35-17 MMA) beat Diaz (21-13 MMA) at UFC 244 in 2019 via TKO for the symbolic BMF Title. A brawler, Masvidal has gone 0-4 in MMA action since then, while Diaz os 1-1 on his way out of the UFC.
Masvidal competes in his first boxing fight since 2005. “Gambred” believes he will go 2-0 against Diaz.
“I’m meaner. I’m faster. I’m more explosive. And when it comes down to it, I think I’ve got the best hands in MMA,” Masvidal said. “On July 6, I get to prove that. No questions, no nothing. We’re going to find out. There’s none of that jiu-jitsu (stuff), none of that hugging, it’s just straight hands.”

Diaz fought Jake Paul in August 2023, going the distance against the YouTuber in a boxing ring. The durable Diaz looks to use his excellent cardio in the fight like against “The Problem Child,” tiring out Masvidal before taking him out.
On the undercard, a former champion faces a rising contender and son of a former world champion, and MMA fighters collide in a boxing ring.
Nate Diaz vs. Jorge Masvidal undercard
Here’s a breakdown of all the action on the Diaz vs. Masvidal main card.
Daniel Jacobs vs. Shane Mosley Jr.
- Division/Weight: Super Middleweight
- Jacobs record: 37-4
- Mosley record: 21-4
- Belts at stake: N/A
The co-main event is Daniel Jacobs vs. Shane Mosley Jr.
It is the first fight for Jacobs (37-4) since February 2022, a loss against John Ryder. “Miracle Man” is a former WBA and IBF middleweight champion, with the only losses of the last 10 years coming against Ryder, Gennadiy Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez. Jacobs, 37, is ready to start the latest chapter of his career.
“I’ve been off for two years, and now I’ve taken the time to get my mind, body and spirit intact. You guys are going to see the effects on fight night,” Jacobs said. “I appreciate all the love, but you guys are going to see the return of the ‘Miracle Man.’ I knew I wanted to finish my career with a bang. So this is representing the next step in me getting that Hall of Fame plaque.”
Mosley (21-4) is the son of former three-division champion Shane Mosley. The younger Mosley, 33, is on a four-fight win streak and has 12 wins via knockout. Facing Jacobs, his most established opponent to date, Mosley is ready for all eyes to be on him.
“My dad was able to show me that a man can do great things if he puts his mind to it. But I stand on my own, and I got into this sport for myself. I want to build my own legacy,” Mosley said. “My goal is actually to be undisputed middleweight champion, but when you get the opportunity to fight Daniel Jacobs, you don’t turn it down. I could have fought for a title at middleweight, but I couldn’t miss the chance to fight a legend.”

- Pettis record: 1-0 boxing, 25-14 MMA
- Avila record: 5-1 boxing, 8-9 MMA
- Belts at stake: N/A
Also on the card will be Anthony Pettis vs. Chris Avila.
Pettis (1-0) is a former WEC and UFC lightweight champion known for landing the Submission of the Year against Benson Henderson in 2013. After going 1-4 in the PFL, “Showtime” turned to boxing. He beat Roy Jones Jr. in Pettis’ boxing debut in 2023, Jones’ first pro fight since 2018.
“I’ve been sparring some of the best boxers in the world to get ready for the championship MMA fights I’ve had, and it shows. In my first fight, I fought Roy Jones Jr., so I couldn’t just go out there and knock him out,” Pettis said. “(Jones) is a much bigger guy than me. Avila is more my size, so I can go out there and knock him out, and that’s what we’re training for.”
Avila (5-1) last competed in MMA in 2021, going 2-2 that year. The Diaz training partner started boxing in 2014 but has fought consistently since 2021. He beat MMA veteran Jeremy Stephens in 2023 and bare-knuckle fighter Jake Bostwick in March.
“I know he’s game, but I’m game too,” Avila said. “I box for real, and I’ve been boxing for a while. So I train for real, and I train in boxing. I plan on knocking this fool out, too.”
