Spain made a huge statement in their opening 3-0 Group B win over Croatia at Euro 2024 but head coach Luis de la Fuente had possible concerns over a couple of key men heading into the mouth-watering showdown with Italy.
Captain Alvaro Morata opened the scoring with the seventh European Championship goal of his career before the excellent Fabian Ruiz and Dani Carvajal piled the misery on the 2018 World Cup finalists.
But Morata limped out of the action midway through the second half and talismanic midfielder Rodri was also withdrawn late on.
Italy suffered an early scare when they went behind inside a minute against group outsiders Albania but came back strongly via goals from Alessandro Bastoni and Nicolo Barella.
It set up a rematch of the Euro 2020 semifinal perfectly. Remarkably, this is the fifth consecutive edition of this tournament when Italy and Spain have played each other, a run that began in 2008.

Spain vs. Italy predicted lineups, starting 11, team news
Spain will have Rodri and Alvaro Morata available for their match against Italy, both having fully recovered from fitness concerns.
“Nothing important. Morata got a bang, and Rodri was fatigue as he had worked a lot,” said Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente. “It was intelligent to ask for the change, as we want all our players in the best condition possible for the final stages of this competition.”
Aymeric Laporte, who missed the opening game, is ready to return but Nacho and Robin Le Normand are likely to continue in the centre of defence. Dani Olmo and Alex Grimaldo are contenders for starting positions, but De la Fuente could stick with his XI from Berlin.
Spain predicted: (4-3-3, right to left): Simon (GK) — Carvajal, Le Normand, Nacho, Cucurella — Pedri, Rodri, Ruiz — Lamine Yamal, Morata, Williams.
Injured: None
Suspended: None
Italy also have a fully fit squad. Head coach Luciano Spalletti might opt for a cautious approach. Gianluca Mancini could replace Riccardo Calafiori in defence, and Bryan Cristante might take Lorenzo Pellegrini‘s spot in midfield.
Nicolo Barella, with five goal involvements in his past seven games, is surely a confirmed starter. Genoa striker Mateo Retegui is pushing to replace Gianluca Scamacca up front.
Italy predicted (4-2-3-1, right to left): Donnarumma (GK) — Di Lorenzo, Bastoni, Calafiori, Dimarco — Jorginho, Barella — Frattesi, Pellegrini, Chiesa — Scamacca.
