Germany take on Hungary in their second Group A game at Euro 2024 on the back of opening the tournament with a ruthless 5-1 win over Scotland.
Julian Nagelsmann’s side have produced the most complete performance of the competition so far to lay down a marker to title rivals England, France and Portugal.
Hungary stumbled in their opening fixture, as Marco Rossi’s side lost 3-1 against Switzerland, to leave them in a weakened position to clinch an automatic Round of 16 knockout spot.
However, with third place still potentially enough to secure a spot in the next phase, Hungary have plenty to play for, but a win will see Germany progress with a game to spare.

Germany vs. Hungary lineups & team news
With Germany on the verge of securing qualification, Nagelsmann is not expected to tinker too much with his lineup.
Niclas Fullkrug impressed off the bench in the thrashing of Scotland, but it’s likely Kai Havertz will continue as the spearhead of Germany’s attack.
Germany projected starting lineup (4-2-3-1): Neuer (GK) — Kimmich, Rudiger, Tah, Mittelstadt — Andrich, Kroos — Musiala, Gundogan, Wirtz — Havertz.
Hungary are likely to stick with a largely unchanged side from the Switzerland loss, although Bendeguz Bolla could come in at right wing-back for Attila Fiola.
Le Havre defender Loic Nego, and Parma’s Botond Balogh, are still struggling with pre-tournament injuries, and will not be ready to face Germany.
Barnsley’s Callum Styles, Hertha BSC’s Marton Dardai, and Torino’s Krisztofer Horvath took part in training are should be fit to make the squad.
Hungary projected starting lineup (3-4-2-1): Gulacsi — Lang, Orban, Szalai — Fiola, A. Nagy, Schafer, Kerkez — Sallai, Szoboszlai — Varga.
Germany vs. Hungary prediction
- Score prediction: Germany 3-1 Hungary
Hungary will be desperate for a positive result after losing their opening game, but Germany’s strength, and the home support, should make for an insurmountable task.
The hosts started the Scotland game with authority and a repeat performance should let them take early control of this game, much as Switzerland did against Hungary on matchday one.
There’s a good chance Hungary could get a goal, as they chase valuable points, but this could leave them open to the pace of Germany’s attack. A relatively routine win seems likely for Nagelsmann.
