BOSTON — The Celtics made a statement with a convincing win in Game 1 of the NBA Finals. In Game 2, the Mavericks will look to respond.
Boston’s Game 1 victory was highlighted by the return of Kristaps Porzingis, who came back from a calf injury to score 20 points, pull down six rebounds and block three shots. In addition to Porzingis, Jaylen Brown set the tone with a team-high 22 points and Jayson Tatum had moments despite inefficient shooting.
The Mavericks will look to improve upon a stagnant offensive performance in which the team dished out just nine assists. Luka Doncic scored 30 points but Kyrie Irving had an off night, shooting 6 of 19 from the field for 12 points.
After a two-day break, these teams are back in action. It’s familiar territory for Dallas, which is now 1-3 in Game 1s during the postseason. The Celtics, on the other hand, are 1-2 in Game 2s during these playoffs. The Mavs will look to bounce back to even the series before it shifts to Texas.
