Tennessee, the No. 1 overall seed in the 2024 NCAA baseball tournament, begins its super regional against upstart Evansville on Friday afternoon.
The Volunteers glided through their regional, winning their three games by an average of seven runs. Tennessee has not lost since the opening game of the SEC Tournament, riding a seven-game winning streak.
Now, the Volunteers are on the doorstep of reaching their third College World Series in the last four years.
But pesky Evansville, out of the Missouri Valley Conference, stands in their way. And the Purple Aces are looking for more history.
Evansville became just the ninth No. 4 seed in history to win a regional, ousting No. 16 East Carolina in the Greenville regional. Designated hitter Kip Fougerousse earned Most Outstanding Player honors, while outfielder Mark Shallenberger launched the eventual game-winning, three-run home run that propelled the Purple Aces into the super regionals for the first time.
