Middleweight standouts clash in Louisville when the UFC heads to Kentucky on June 8. Leaving the APEX Center, the main event will be Jared Cannonier vs. Nassourdine Imavov. The fight and card air on ESPN+ in the U.S.
Cannonier is ranked fourth in the UFC’s middleweight rankings. The 40-year-old failed to capture the UFC middleweight title against Israel Adesanya in 2022 but beat former champion Sean Strickland and former contender Marvin Vettori to stay on top of the division.
“The Killa Gorilla” is ready to prove he deserves another shot at gold. While not looking past his opponent, he knows his value in the octagon.
“Naturally, I want the contenders fight. I want the highest ranking, the best matchup. I was hoping to get Costa later, maybe in June, but they gave that fight to (Strickland). That ship sailed. All they had left was Imavov,” Cannonier told Middle Easy via MMA Junkie. “I needed to get my toes wet again, and he’s a good dust-up to knock the dust off, if you will. … I wanted the top, anybody ahead of me: Strickland, (Israel) Adesanya, (Robert) Whittaker.”

Ranked eighth in the rankings, Imavov is still a force in the division. The French fighter is 1-1 with one no-contest in his last three fights. He beat Roman Dolidze in February despite being deducted a point. “The Sniper” has five wins via knockout, his previous win via the power punch being in 2021.
