FIRST DIRECT ARENA, LEEDS — Two years and three months on from their highly controversial first fight in Glasgow, British super lightweight Josh Taylor and Jack Catterall finally get the chance to settle the score.
Taylor (19-1, 13 KOs) entered the ring as the undisputed champion at 140lbs and was cut and dropped by underdog Catterall (28-1, 13 KOs) in February 2022. The champion was awarded a heavily disputed split decision on the cards.
Since then, it’s been an arduous road to this very necessary rematch. Taylor dropped belts in order to make it happen, only to suffer a foot injury that forced a January 2023 cancellation.
All the while, enmity between the two fighters ramped up and, instead of rescheduling against Catterall in 2023, Taylor went to New York to face Teofimo Lopez. He lost his remaining WBO title and undefeated record. For Taylor vs. Catterall 2, there is merely pride, bragging rights and each man’s future at the top level on the line.
