Dak Prescott hasn’t enjoyed much postseason success during his time with the Cowboys. The Dallas quarterback has won just two playoff games during his eight NFL seasons and the team is coming off a disappointing 48-32 NFC wild-card loss to the No. 7 seed Packers in 2024.
Many might believe Prescott might be a bit jealous of the success the NBA’s Mavericks and NHL’s Stars have enjoyed this spring. After all, each team advanced to the conference finals in its respective sport; that’s something the Cowboys haven’t done in 28 years.

Instead, Prescott is feeling motivated by the strong performance of his regional counterparts.
“It’s not jealousy, but it fires you up,” Prescott explained when asked about the Mavericks and Stars’ playoff runs Wednesday, per Athlon Sports. “I want it for them. Go win it. (The Texas) Rangers did it (in baseball, winning the World Series in 2023). Other two go do it!”

Either Dallas team winning in addition to the Rangers, based in Arlington, would be historic. Only six cities have ever won both an MLB and an NHL or NBA title in the same calendar year.
Year | City | Team 1 (League) | Team 2 (League) |
1928 | New York City | Rangers (NHL) | Yankees (MLB) |
1933 | New York City | Rangers (NHL) | Giants (MLB) |
1988 | Los Angeles | Lakers (NBA) | Dodgers (MLB) |
2000 | Greater New York | Devils (NHL) | Yankees (MLB) |
2002 | Greater Los Angeles | Lakers (NBA) | Angels (MLB) |
2020 | Los Angeles | Lakers (NBA) | Dodgers (MLB) |
If both the Mavericks and Stars can emerge with titles in their respective sports, Dallas would become the first city to win an NBA and NHL title in the same season.
What impact might a Dallas win in either sport have on the expectations for the Cowboys to win a Super Bowl?
“Put more f—ing pressure on us,” Prescott said, bluntly.

The Cowboys remain the most popular team in the region. If they can bust out of their 28-year Super Bowl slump, Dallas fans would be elated.
Until then, they’ll have to settle for the Rangers championship and the playoff runs of the Mavericks and Stars as solid consolation prizes.
