The SEC touts four top-five teams and five firmly inside the top-10 of D1Baseball.com’s latest poll, setting the conference up for an action-packed week at the 2024 SEC baseball tournament in Hoover, Alabama.
Tennessee, Arkansas, Kentucky, and Texas A&M — all ranked inside the top five — comprise the tournament’s top four seeds. And among them, talent is rife.
The Razorbacks are led by their ace, Hagen Smith, a flame-throwing southpaw with a 1.52 ERA and 150 strikeouts, the best marks in the SEC. The Aggies, meanwhile, also own two of the best pitchers in the conference in Evan Aschenbeck (1.80 ERA) and Ryan Prager (2.47 ERA).
Tennessee, meanwhile, led the SEC in batting average (.316), slugging percentage (.617), hits (591), and runs scored (526), among other offensive categories.
But dark horses loom among the lower seeds, too. Florida, a No. 9 seed, boasts two-way phenom Jac Caglianone. In the regular season, Caglianone hit .413 with 29 home runs, both second-most in the SEC. It would be foolish, too, to write off LSU, as the 11th-seeded Tigers are still the reigning national champions.
