NFL Mock Draft 2024, 3-round edition: Commanders grab Jayden Daniels; Raiders get Michael Penix Jr.

The 2024 NFL Draft is a little more than a week away. Sporting News’ most recent mocks have gone seven rounds and also offered a trade-heavy first-round edition. Now, it’s time to focus again on the projections for the first three rounds assuming there are no trades.

Although some things have come into better focus, there’s still plenty of uncertainty with how the picks will play out in Detroit on April 25-27.

Here’s an updated take on what teams might be thinking from No. 1 through No. 100.

Round 1

1. Chicago Bears (from Panthers)

Caleb Williams, QB, USC (6-1, 214 pounds)

The Bears have been locked into Williams for a while and confirmed that by trading Justin Fields not long before Williams’ stellar pro day workout. He’ll try to finally solve the long-term franchise QB problem in Chicago with his transcendent talent and competitiveness.

2. Washington Commanders

Jayden Daniels, QB, LSU (6-4, 210 pounds)

Daniels or Drake Maye? That’s the biggest early question on the board, assuming the Commanders don’t trade out of this pick with the Vikings or another team. Daniels’ dynamic athletic skill set would seem to fall in line more with the offensive philosophy of Kliff Kingsbury.

3. New England Patriots

Drake Maye, QB, North Carolina (6-4, 223 pounds)

The Patriots are more likely than the Commanders to trade down out of a high pick despite a massive QB need. They need to rebuild in several areas for new coach Jerod Mayo and GM Eliot Wolf. If they stay put, it would make sense to jump on Maye, who might be a better fit for Alex Van Pelt’s offense over Daniels, anyway.

4. Arizona Cardinals

Marvin Harrison Jr., WR, Ohio State (6-3, 202 pounds)

The Cardinals have a major void for a true No. 1 wide receiver for Kyler Murray. Harrison checks every box in that department as one of the most tantalizing positional prospects ever.

5. Los Angeles Chargers

Malik Nabers, WR, LSU (6-0, 200 pounds)

The Chargers will also think about a top offensive lineman and tight end Brock Bowers, but in the end, they need a new dynamic do-everything go-to guy for Justin Herbert in the new offense under Greg Roman after moving on from Keenan Allen and Mike Williams.

6. New York Giants

Rome Odunze, WR, Washington (6-3, 212 pounds)

The Giants will also think about getting their long-term No. 1 wide receiver for Daniel Jones or another quarterback. Odunze is a smooth route runner with loads of his own classic No. 1 size and big-play talent.

7. Tennessee Titans

Joe Alt, OT, Notre Dame (6-9, 321 pounds)

The Titans need to keep improving their offensive line, and it makes sense to land a sturdy pass protector with Will Levis most in mind.

8. Atlanta Falcons

Dallas Turner, EDGE, Alabama (6-3, 247 pounds)

The Falcons have had an offensive-minded offseason so far, but now it’s time to please defensive-minded coach Raheem Morris with a needed cornerstone pass rusher and run stopper.

9. Chicago Bears

Olumuyiwa Fashanu, OT, Penn State (6-6, 312 pounds)

The Bears should covet Fashanu’s combination of power and athleticism as a needed left-tackle upgrade for Caleb Williams.

10. New York Jets

Brock Bowers, TE, Georgia (6-3, 243 pounds)

The Jets have become more attached to landing Bowers as a reliable, short-to-intermediate third target for Aaron Rodgers behind Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall.

11. Minnesota Vikings

J.J. McCarthy, QB, Michigan (6-2, 219 pounds)

The Vikings may need to move up to ensure getting McCarthy to lead Kevin O’Connell’s loaded offense, but his arm, athleticism, toughness, and competitiveness will look good paired with Minnesota’s other JJ.

12. Denver Broncos

Bo Nix, QB, Oregon (6-2, 214 pounds)

Nix has some accuracy comparisons to Drew Brees, so it makes sense that Brees’ former Saints coach Sean Payton would covet those attributes. Nix also can help as a plus athlete with a strong arm.

13. Las Vegas Raiders

Taliese Fuaga, OT, Oregon State (6-6, 234 pounds)

The Raiders need to give Kolton Miller some help on the edges up front, and with the run of five quarterbacks off the board, they should target Fuaga, who would give them a strong, dual-faceted blocking asset.

14. New Orleans Saints

Laiatu Latu, EDGE, UCLA (6-5, 259 pounds)

Cameron Jordan is 34, Chase Young was a flier to give him some help outside, and the Saints need to boost their inside pass-rush pop. Latu’s versatility and production in getting to the QB should be welcome for defensive-minded Dennis Allen.

15. Indianapolis Colts

Quinyon Mitchell, CB, Toledo (6-0, 195 pounds)

The Colts need a speedy corner to help them with downfield coverage in Gus Bradley’s scheme, and no one in this class is as fast with the same level of on-ball skills as Mitchell.

16. Seattle Seahawks

Cooper DeJean, CB, Iowa (6-1, 209 pounds)

The Seahawks need to land a versatile playmaker who has the speed and quickness to cover plenty of ground in Mike Macdonald’s scheme. DeJean is the ideal athlete for them to place in a dangerous hybrid secondary role.

17. Jacksonville Jaguars

Terrion Arnold, CB, Alabama (6-0, 189 pounds)

The Jaguars have been searching for that special ballhawk with some shutdown potential since dealing Jalen Ramsey, and Arnold finally fills that void opposite Tyson Campbell.

18. Cincinnati Bengals

Byron Murphy II, DT, Texas (6-0, 297 pounds)

The Bengals need to restock their defensive interior juice, and Murphy would wreak havoc playing off Cincinnati’s strength at defensive end.

19. Los Angeles Rams

Jared Verse, EDGE, Florida State (6-4, 254 pounds)

The Rams will think about going after Aaron Donald’s defensive tackle replacement, but they can’t go wrong adding a productive pass rusher for new defensive coordinator Chris Shula.

20. Pittsburgh Steelers

Jackson Powers-Johnson, G, Oregon (6-3, 328 pounds)

The Steelers should be looking to upgrade either center or right guard right along with offensive tackle, and JPJ’s presence would be a much welcome boost to their overall blocking to help 2023 free-agent addition Issac Seumalo.

21. Miami Dolphins

Johnny Newton, DT, Illinois (6-2, 304 pounds)

The Dolphins need to address the void created by losing disruptive Christian Wilkins in free agency and Newton can make a ton of plays in the backfield with high floor vs. the run.

22. Philadelphia Eagles (11-6)

Amarius Mims, OT, Georgia (6-8, 340 pounds)

The Eagles should think about getting a cornerback even if Mitchell is off the board but they could also stash some needed tackle depth in this potential successor to right tackle Lane Johnson, who turns 34 in May.

23. Minnesota Vikings (from Browns through Texans)

Graham Barton, OT, Duke (6-5, 313 pounds)

Barton has tha athleticism to play outside but he might be a bigger force using those nimble feet to go with his upper-body blocking pop inside. The Vikings, should they stay put here, could use him as a left guard to flank Christian Darrisaw.

24. Dallas Cowboys (12-5)

Troy Fautanu, G, Washington (6-4, 317 pounds)

The Cowboys need to think interior offensive line first with issues around 33-year-old Zack Martin. Should Powers-Johnson be off the board, they should be fine staying in the Pacific Northwest for Fautanu’s nasty but athletic blocking prowess.

25. Green Bay Packers

J.C. Latham, OT, Alabama (6-6, 342 pounds)

The Packers need to think about offensive tackle early after parting ways with David Bakhtiari, and Latham has the all-around upside for which they are looking.

26. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Chop Robinson, EDGE, Penn State (6-3, 254 pounds)

The Buccaneers need to rebuild their pass rush for Todd Bowles minus Shaquil Barrett. Robinson has the speed, explosiveness, and finish to fare well in their defensive scheme.

27. Arizona Cardinals (from Texans)

Darius Robinson, EDGE, Missouri (6-5, 285 pounds)

The Cardinals might think offensive line with this second first-rounder after grabbing Marvin Harrison Jr. early, but they can go for another borderline-freakish pass rusher named Robinson to help Jonathan Gannon.

28. Buffalo Bills

Brian Thomas Jr., WR, LSU (6-4, 205 pounds)

The Bills might need to address wideout multiple times after trading Stefon Diggs and not re-signing Gabe Davis. Thomas would wrap both needs into one as a complete No. 1 with Davis’ big-play juice outside.

29. Detroit Lions (12-5)

Kool-Aid McKinstry, CB, Alabama (5-11, 199 pounds)

The Lions still need to address corner after their veteran additions didn’t pan out last offseason. McKinstry has some elite playmaking flashes with shutdown-level upside.

30. Baltimore Ravens (13-4)

Tyler Guyton, OT, Oklahoma (6-8, 322 pounds)

The Ravens have an opening at right tackle opposite Ronnie Stanley, and Guyton’s powerful frame and buzzy quick feet make him an ideal target late in the first round.

31. San Francisco 49ers (12-5)

Nate Wiggins, CB, Clemson (6-2, 185 pounds)

The 49ers need to address a need in the secondary, and the speedy Wiggins might just slip this far based on other teams preferring different corners during a strong early run at the position.

32. Kansas City Chiefs (11-6)

Adonai Mitchell, WR, Texas (6-2, 205 pounds)

The Chiefs will have Brian Thomas on their radar, too, but Mitchell profiles as a nice-size playmaker on the outside to complement Rashee Rice and Travis Kelce.

Round 2

33. Carolina Panthers

Troy Franklin, WR, Oregon (6-2, 176 pounds)

The Panthers need a field-stretching outside receiver to complement Diontae Johnson and Adam Thielen, and Franklin would be a sweet downfield get for Bryce Young in Dave Canales’ offense.

34. New England Patriots

The Patriots need to consider offensive tackle rather early for their rookie QB, and Suamataia has athletic upside for the left side opposite re-signed Mike Onwenu.

35. Arizona Cardinals

Jordan Morgan, OT, Arizona (6-5, 311 pounds)

The Cardinals can find solid offensive tackle value here to better support 2023 first-rounder Paris Johnson Jr.

36. Washington Commanders

Ladd McConkey, WR, Georgia (6-0, 186 pounds)

The Commanders need a third receiving option between Terry McLaurin and Jahan Dotson, and the versatile, technical McConkey would be an upgrade over Curtis Samuel.

Braden Fiske, DT, Florida State (6-4, 292 pounds)

The Chargers will be ready to jump on the disruptive, fast-rising Fiske for the heart of their new defense under DC Jesse Minter.

38. Tennessee Titans

Payton Wilson, LB, NC State (6-4, 233 pounds)

The Titans could use a rangy linebacker to clean up on the second level, and Wilson simply flies to cover a lot of ground, especially in coverage.

39. Carolina Panthers (from Giants)

T.J. Tampa, CB, Iowa State (6-1, 189 pounds)

The Panthers will be looking for some corner help after moving Donte Jackson in the Diontae Johnson trade, and Tampa uses all of his frame and speed well in coverage.

40. Washington Commanders (from Bears)

Kamari Lassiter, CB, Georgia (5-11, 186 pounds)

Lassiter is the versatile playmaking physical cover man the Commanders need for their new defense under Dan Quinn.

41. Green Bay Packers (from Jets)

Zach Frazier, C, West Virginia (6-3, 313 pounds)

The Packers have been rather disappointed in Josh Myers and will look to make a second consecutive upgrade for their offensive line.

42. Houston Texans (from Vikings)

Chris Braswell, EDGE, Alabama (6-3, 251 pounds)

The Texans can get some needed young bookend help for Will Anderson Jr. in the form of his former teammate.

43. Atlanta Falcons

Tyler Nubin, S, Minnesota (6-1, 199 pounds)

The Falcons cleaned up one safety with former Bengal Jessie Bates III in free agency last year, and now they can land the ideal complement.

44. Las Vegas Raiders

Michael Penix Jr., QB, Washington (6-2, 216 pounds)

Vegas might come up snake eyes on the first-round QB run, but it would love to rebound here with another high-upside target. Penix has a big arm and underrated mobility, and the Raiders have time to wait with Gardner Minshew bridging the gap.

Edgerrin Cooper, LB, Texas A&M (6-2, 230 pounds)

The Saints need to think about the future of the second level given Demario Davis is 35.

46. Indianapolis Colts

Xavier Worthy, WR, Texas (5-11, 165 pounds)

The Colts saw Worthy blaze to an amazing 40-yard dash on their home field and should love to have him try to catch up with Anthony Richardson’s deep passes opposite Michael Pittman Jr.

47. New York Giants (from Seahawks)

Bralen Trice, EDGE, Washington (6-3, 245 pounds)

The Giants can go defense with their second pick and land a productive pass rusher to produce situationally behind Kayvon Thibodeaux and Brian Burns.

48. Jacksonville Jaguars

Xavier Legette, WR, South Carolina (6-1, 221 pounds)

The Jaguars need to be in the market for more wide receiver help. Trevor Lawrence would like to have Legette’s field-stretching presence in the mix opposite Gabe Davis.

49. Cincinnati Bengals

Mike Sainristil, CB, Michigan (5-8, 182 pounds)

Sainristil is the scrappy, aggressive physical corner the Bengals should target to help replace Chidobe Awuzie.

50. Philadelphia Eagles (from Saints)

Ennis Rakestraw Jr., CB, Missouri (5-11, 183 pounds)

The Eagles should be thrilled if this cover man ends up slipping. Rakestraw makes plays as a fearless, aggressive tracker of downfield receivers.

51. Pittsburgh Steelers

Keon Coleman, WR, Florida State (6-3, 213 pounds)

After trading Diontae Johnson, the Steelers could use a technically sound route-runner to pair with George Pickens. The big-bodied Coleman more than fits the bill.

Ruke Orhorhoro, DT, Clemson (6-4, 294 pounds)

Orhorhoro can offer the Rams an appealing combination of size and quickness to help replace retired Aaron Donald.

53. Philadelphia Eagles

Adisa Isaac, EDGE, Penn State (6-4, 247 pounds)

After landing Bryce Huff in free agency, Isaac can give Philadelphia a little more pop in Vic Fangio’s 3-4 defense along with Josh Sweat.

54. Cleveland Browns

Kris Jenkins, DT, Michigan (6-3, 299 pounds)

The Browns need some inside pass-rushing pop to add to their run-stopping prowess, and Jenkins fits well in the rotation.

55. Miami Dolphins

Jonah Elliss, EDGE, Utah (6-2, 248 pounds)

Elliss will be an effective natural run stopper outside for Anthony Weaver, who also will help untap his potential as a pass rusher.

56. Dallas Cowboys

Jonathon Brooks, RB, Texas (6-0, 216 pounds)

Brooks is the only three-down back to consider this early, and he would have gone higher as a good power-speed blend if not for an ACL injury that cut short his final season in Austin.

With Chris Godwin now seeing a majority of work outside opposite Mike Evans, the Buccaneers could use a more dedicated slot.

58. Green Bay Packers

Jaden Hicks, S, Washington State (6-2, 211 pounds)

The Packers spent good money to shore up one safety spot with Xavier McKinney in free agency. Hicks will allow them to further boost their run support from the position with some coverage upside.

59. Houston Texans

Calen Bullock, S, USC (6-2, 188 pounds)

The Texans can address a key area of need for DeMeco Ryans’ secondary with Bullock’s speed, quickness, and big-slot coverage potential.

60. Buffalo Bills

Javon Bullard, S, Georgia (5-10, 198 pounds)

The Bills got gutted at safety out of cap necessity in free agency, so it makes sense to take the best playmaker available at the position.

61. Detroit Lions

Ricky Pearsall, WR, Florida (6-1, 189 pounds)

The Lions have Amon-Ra St. Brown to dominate the slot and are hopeful Jameson Williams can provide more soon, but it makes sense to add Pearsall, a route-running technician with some big-play flair.

62. Baltimore Ravens

Javon Baker, WR, UCF (6-1, 202 pounds)

The Ravens can get a technically sound possession slot here to help complement Zay Flowers.

63. San Francisco 49ers

Blake Fisher, OT, Notre Dame (6-6, 310 pounds)

Fisher has natural power and can work his agility to be an active all-around asset in Kyle Shanahan’s blocking scheme outside.

64. Kansas City Chiefs

T’Vondre Sweat, DT, Texas (6-4, 366 pounds)

The Chiefs tend to be bolder than other teams when it comes to prospects with off-field concerns. They will do their homework to land this do-everything tackle who can be mentored well by Chris Jones.

65. Carolina Panthers

Marshawn Kneeland, EDGE, Western Michigan (6-3, 267 pounds)

The Panthers added Jadeveon Clowney to offset the loss of Brian Burns, but they should still be very interested in this well-rounded pass-rush sleeper here.

66. Arizona Cardinals

Blake Corum, RB, Michigan (5-8, 205 pounds)

Corum would provide the ideal change-of-pace and relief for James Conner in OC Drew Petzing’s running scheme.

67. Washington Commanders

Kiran Amegadjie, OT, Yale (6-5, 323 pounds)

The Commanders need some agility, smarts, and versatility for their offensive line, especially in pass protection.

68. New England Patriots

Khyree Jackson, CB, Oregon (6-4, 194 pounds)

The Patriots, like other teams, are intrigued by Jackson’s size and coverage technique upside.

69. Los Angeles Chargers

Jalen McMillan, WR, Washington (6-1, 197 pounds)

The Chargers, after adding Malik Nabers in the first round, need a smooth route-running slot to help replace Keenan Allen.

70. New York Giants

Junior Colson, LB, Michigan (6-2, 238 pounds)

The Giants could use a heady, rangy cover man and blitzer for the second level to complement Bobby Okereke.

71. Arizona Cardinals (from Titans)

Sedrick Van Pran-Granger, C, Georgia (6-4, 298 pounds)

The Cardinals can keep working on a major upgrade to their offensive line, adding a starting center.

72. New York Jets

Max Melton, CB, Rutgers (5-11, 197 pounds)

The Jets took a chance on former 49ers corner Isaiah Oliver in free agency, but they can stay in New Jersey to find a solid, short-area slot to add depth between Sauce Gardner and D.J. Reed.

73. Detroit Lions (from Vikings)

Christian Haynes, G, Connecticut (6-3, 317 pounds)

The Lions locked up Graham Glasgow and signed Kevin Zeitler with Jonah Jackson leaving, but they could use some solid run-blocking depth inside.

74. Atlanta Falcons

Michael Hall Jr., DT, Ohio State (6-3, 290 pounds)

The Falcons stay defensive-minded for Raheem Morris, now addressing a key rotational backup piece with natural strength and explosiveness.

75. Chicago Bears

Ja’Lynn Polk, WR, Washington (6-1, 203 pounds)

The Bears could use a physical target to complement DJ Moore and Keenan Allen for Caleb Williams.

76. Denver Broncos

Malachi Corley, WR, Western Kentucky (5-10, 215 pounds)

The Broncos need to replace traded Jerry Jeudy with a more interesting slot option. Corley converts his strong routes into some big plays after the catch.

77. Las Vegas Raiders

. Kris Abrams-Draine, CB, Missouri (5-11, 179 pounds)

Abrams-Draine fills the Raiders’ need for a fluid, agile corner with some playmaking upside behind their pass rush.

78. Washington Commanders (from Seahawks)

Dominic Puni, G, Kansas (6-5, 313 pounds)

The Commanders could use a youthful, athletic run blocker inside, as newcomer Nick Allegretti is better as a swing backup.

79. Atlanta Falcons (from Jaguars)

The Falcons can keep up the strong defensive haul behind Dallas Turner, Tyler Nubin, and Michael Hall Jr. by addressing another key inside piece to upgrade next to Kaden Elliss.

80. Cincinnati Bengals

Ja’Tavion Sanders, TE, Texas (6-4, 245 pounds)

The Bengals re-signed Drew Sample and added Mike Gesicki, but they still need more athletic, inside pass-catching options with Tyler Boyd not re-signed. Sanders has loads of potential as a short-to-intermediate target.

81. Seattle Seahawks (from Saints through Broncos)

Spencer Rattler, QB, South Carolina (6-0, 211 pounds)

Ratter’s combination of arm, athleticism, and experience should give him appeal as another quick developmental option to go with Sam Howell behind Geno Smith.

Brandon Dorlus, EDGE, Oregon (6-3, 283 pounds)

The Colts could use a lot more speed and quickness in their pass rush, and that’s just what Dorlus can provide.

83. Los Angeles Rams

Cedric Gray, LB, North Carolina (6-1, 234 pounds)

The Rams can feel good about half of their linebacker corps with Byron Young and Ernest Jones, but they need more run-stopping pop and pass-rush upside, which Gray provides.

84. Pittsburgh Steelers

Kamren Kinchens, S, Miami (5-11, 203 pounds)

The Steelers catch a falling Kinchens to give them another nickel back option behind Minkah Fitzpatrick.

85. Cleveland Browns

Gabriel Murphy, EDGE, UCLA (6-2, 247 pounds)

The Browns can inject well-needed depth at defensive end with Murphy, who offers a good blend of power and quickness.

86. Houston Texans (from Eagles)

Leonard Taylor III, DT, Miami (6-3, 303 pounds)

The Texans added Denico Autry, Foley Fatukasi, and Tim Settle in free agency, but they won’t mind adding more depth to help in the run-stopping rotation.

87. Dallas Cowboys

Devontez Walker, WR, North Carolina (6-2, 193 pounds)

Walker can give Dallas a technically sound deep threat to replace Michael Gallup.

88. Green Bay Packers

Christian Mahogany, G, Boston College (6-3, 314 pounds)

The Packers need to think about interior offensive line, too, after not re-signing Jon Runyan in free agency. Mahogany is a welcome, athletic option in their scheme.

89. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Cooper Beebe, G, Kansas State (6-3, 322 pounds)

The Buccaneers can address the interior line well with this classic power blocker.

90. Arizona Cardinals (from Texans)

Roman Wilson, WR, Michigan (5-10, 185 pounds)

The Cardinals need to replace some of the dynamic, big-play ability out of the slot, and Wilson can be an upgrade over Rondale Moore operating off former Big Ten rival Marvin Harrison Jr.

The Packers should be attracted to how well Hart uses his size in coverage, and he also has big-play upside.

The Buccaneers should target this big-play power runner to complement Rachaad White.

The Ravens can target him as the versatile cover man to replace Geno Stone behind Kyle Hamilton and Marcus Williams.

Brenden Rice, WR, USC (6-2, 208 pounds)

The 49ers, should they move Brandon Aiyuk soon, can go get Jerry’s son as a potential fine deep threat for Brock Purdy.

95. Kansas City Chiefs

Patrick Paul, OT, Houston (6-8, 331 pounds)

The Chiefs can address some help up front and hope to find another gem with Paul, who has tantalizing overall upside.

96. Jacksonville Jaguars (compensatory)

McKinnley Jackson, DT, Texas A&M (6-1, 326 pounds)

The Jaguars can get some stout help for their line rotation behind newcomer Arik Armstead.

97. Cincinnati Bengals (compensatory)

Jamari Thrash, WR, Louisville (6-0, 188 pounds)

The Bengals should think about adding this pass-catcher with some dangerous big-play skills to help replace Tyler Boyd.

98. Pittsburgh Steelers (from Eagles, compensatory)

Austin Booker, EDGE, Kansas (6-5, 240 pounds)

The Steelers would like to improve their pass-rush depth behind T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith. Booker fits the backup profile with his energy, relentlessness, and suddenness.

99. Los Angeles Rams (special compensatory)

Audric Estime, RB, Notre Dame (5-11, 221 pounds)
